I worked at Kelley Drye full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The office is conveniently located in NY.

    Cons

No attention was paid to workers who consistently came to work at least an hour late, reeking of alcohol, and to those who drank too much at lunch and left at 3 or 3:30. This may sound like fun, but it ruins the morale of the workers who work a normal day. If the partners needed a fire put out, the workers put out the fires of those who are at home, or wherever, drunk.

    Advice to Management

    What management?

I worked at Kelley Drye full-time

    Pros

The work/life balance is great and most of the people are very nice.

    Cons

The lack of transparency in terms of career progression is atrocious. I wish I was told my position had a two year expiration date. There is zero room for growth in the department I was in. If you want to stay at a place for more than a couple years, do not come to kdw. Also, the degree of favoritism is appalling. If your boss likes you, you will have the chance to move up/negotiate pay and responsibilities. If your boss thinks you're disposable and ambivalent about your presence, you won't get promoted even if you are a good employee and produce high quality work,

The differences between offices make it seem like each office is a separate firm; there's no sense of unification. The job opportunities also vary greatly: people can get promoted in DC while it's virtually impossible to in NY.

The pay is below market but that wasn't surprising since associates don't get market salaries.

Bottom line: don't come here if you're starting your career and don't want to be forced to leave after a couple years. It's a dead end.

    Advice to Management

Be upfront about career growth and give timelines for how long an employee generally stays in a position. It's extremely demoralizing to see people get promoted in other offices and wonder why you're not getting that opportunity. I felt like I was running around in circles trying to get information on the promotion process.

Adopt a 360 review system. Directors and managers desperately need to improve but they never will if they're not given feedback by everyone in their team.

When an employee makes a mistake, tell them right away rather than wait six months and let that error have dire consequences on their career.

The recent departures of several employees should really force leadership to evaluate its group.

I have been working at Kelley Drye full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They have Bagel Day on the first Monday of each month that is a business day.
They occasionally have employees hand out cookies, candy or soda bread (St. Patrick's Day).
They seem overall very knowledgeable and professional and friendly.

    Cons

They do not generally reimburse you for attending seminars other than those provided by Practising Law Institute (which are free).
They do not reimburse you for joining or participating in any of the bar associations.

    Advice to Management

Adopt a reasonable policy on reimbursement of bar association and CLE dues and fees.

    Pros

Amazing co-workers and excellent managers and supervisors. I worked here for 18 years and had 3 different supervisors..all were incredible. Attorneys are friendly (well most of them). Salary was good including yearly reviews and work performance raises. Bonus are small but the benefits are good. I highly recommend becoming a part of KDW.

    Cons

    I really have no complaints

    Advice to Management

Don't let employees go that dedicate decades to the company. To many employees with 20 plus years let go is disgraceful. Those are the employees that build the foundation to the company and the ones you could depend on always.
