I have been working at Kellogg Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay. Used to be a great company. New VP’s and upper level managers are making poor decisions, Including exiting DSD last year, eliminating over 10k jobs.

Values diversity. So much so that they will retain or hire a less qualified diverse candidate over a more qualified non- diverse one.

    Cons

No direction. Changing business models every year. Employees are just a number and a line on a P&L statement. Let a majority of their top talent go and retained many under performers.

Removed thousands of people from sales and distribution lessening their footprint in the stores and severely weakening the company. Competitors such as Nabisco and Pepper Ridge Farms have benefited greatly.

No real innovations, just bringing back the same unsuccessful items or spin offs.

Terminated thousands of great employees that built this company and made it a great place to work. It is just a shell of that now.

Forced several upper level managers to “retire” while retaining some “yes men” that truly do not care about their employees and do not relate to them.

Seems as though the selectively targeted to eliminate the older male employees that built this company and retain, hire, or promote younger, diverse ones that are inexperienced and unqualified for their positions. I personally have seen this happen numerous times.

Purchased a Pringles ad for the Super Bowl which everyone knows is ridiculously expensive. I guess we know where the money came from...

    Advice to Management

Set clear direction and stick to it. Stop changing models every year. You went to a new model (Project Wilson) and gave up on it within a year. Actually sooner when you consider it was gone within a year, so you were already planning an exodus 3-6 months in.

Stop releasing top talent and retaining diversity at all costs. Just because they are diverse doesn’t make them the best candidate. Experience and qualifications should dictate who stays and who goes, who is hired and who is not.

Kellogg’s founder W.K. Kellogg once quoted “I will invest my money in people” and Kellogg’s used to believe that and had it posted everywhere. Not anymore. They don’t invest in their people and they are only focused on pleasing the shareholders, which of course leads to poor decision making as we have seen the last few years.

If you make your employees feel appreciated, they will move mountains for you.
