I worked at Kellwood full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People there were nice. They had minimal perks such as free lunch for the company once a year and an annual Halloween parade.

    Cons

Depending on which department you worked in, the work environment isn't the greatest. They expect you to work long hours.

I worked at Kellwood full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Casual Dress Code and fun industry

    Cons

Inconsistent management, 'silos' within departments who don't work with each other - no wonder they aren't succeeding. They keep reinventing wheels.

    Advice to Management

Talk to each other. Use that technology you spent so much money on. Just because you work on both coasts, that's not an excuse anymore.

I worked at Kellwood full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Worked as an associate designer for one of the private labels. Your happiness depends on your manager. Each label has a senior designer that's relatively easy to get along with nicely with. Sales team has a strong influence on what you design, which can be good or frustrating. Everyone here is nice and friendly -- loved my boss and coworkers' energy. They're a lot of fun. Solid benefits. Some opportunity to move around or move up. Most people seem happy here, almost like family if you fit in. Taking lunch is encouraged.

    Cons

The private label I worked for was under-performing, which means more pressure and more hours. A lot of times when labels go under, you don't lose your job - you just get moved to a new label like some of my coworkers did. So in that sense you might find yourself moving around a lot.

Company was switching from domestic to import when I was there in late 2016...so going through a lot of changes and some production nightmares. Imagine an understaffed tech team and virtually no product development team. You find yourself doing a lot of the work by yourself, making 9am-8pm days common. Even the technical designers are there until 8 on a regular basis. I heard that once upon a time you'd leave by 6 no problem...maybe once they're done with the transition it'll go back to normal.

    Advice to Management

Hire more tech designers to help many teams (creative, tech, production) with the work/life balance.

I worked at Kellwood (More than 8 years)

    Pros

This is a good company to work for as it is small and personal. The organization is flat so there aren't a lot of management layers.

    Cons

Because it is small, there is not a lot of room for advancement. A lot of the IT is outsourced, so there isn't any job growth in the IT area of the company.

    Advice to Management

Keep communicating with the team about how the company is doing. There isn't a lot of advancement opportunity, it is a good, steady job with OK benefits that is the biggest attraction.

    I worked at Kellwood full-time

    Pros

Good benefits. Hr is supposed to be neutral but sometimes thats questionable

    Cons

Favoritism from the top. People with a high title think they can treat you how they want

    Advice to Management

Play fair. Know who works hard. Dont overwork one person while someone else has squat to do.

    Pros

Clothing allowance, health benefits & summer hours.

    Cons

Constant management changes, no clear directions and horrible decision makers.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring your "friends" at Kellwood and focus on true talent that can help the company and culture!

    Pros

I really enjoyed my years at Kellwood. Everyone is friendly and there is so much room to grow. If you want an opportunity to learn and grow in your career Kellwood is a great place to do that.

    Cons

There are some long hours, but getting into this business you know that ahead of time. Other than that, this is a great place to work.

I worked at Kellwood (Less than a year)

    Pros

There were some good people in leadership. They have a few interesting brands that were doing well. The new york office was in a relatively convenient location although they had not invested much in the decor.

    Cons

Salaries were relatively low for back office people. Lacked work life balance. Poor IT systems and processes so what would be a simple task elsewhere took forever to do. No training provided.

    Advice to Management

Invest in setting up formal processes for everything and invest in better IT systems/applications all around. Provide at least minimal training to employees.
