Not the greatest place to work for but a good place for a starter and to gain experience..

Kellwood offers excellent balance between work and personal life. As long as you do and complete your job in a timely and professional manner, your boss will let you go to doctor's appointments during work hours; or go home early to take care of a sick child. Kellwood organizes variety of fun activities for its employees to ease up the stress and get people together for socializing. Kellwood offers many possibilities for learning, taking classes for professional improvement. Management will almost always encourage its employees if they want to pursue professional development. The Company offers good benefits.
Cons
Relative to the competition, Kellwood pays well below average salary. There are almost no opportunities for advancement, promotions from within are rare. Management provides little to none feedback in regards to how an employee performs and little guidance is offered as to how an employee can improve. The Company does not adjust salaries to off-set the raising inflation; raises are a standard 3% for all employees. There is a luck of communication among departments.

Very difficult place to work. Pay was decent, but not worth all the stress.

Pay & benefits were good. Co-workers were team players & hard working.
Cons
There were a lot of good employees at the company, but management's expectations were unrealistic. Management refused to listen & did not know how to effectively run the department. Apparently, there was a revolving door for the management in my department. No one could effectively run this department unless they hired at least 1 or 2 more people & they refused to see that was the problem. I've never seen such a good group of hard working people, who were so stressed & frustrated, because management treated them with no respect & refused to listen. Everyone was terrified to speak up & say anything. Unfortunately, in this job market, people have to keep their jobs, no matter how they are treated. What a shame.

Pros
Good benefits, flexible hours, clothing discounts for all employees.
Cons
No salary increases, management slow to respond to industry changes, HR and IT are now small, 401k match below industry average, promotions are based on likeability rather than merit and ability.

Very comfortable workplace, good people, great work-life balance
RecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Casual jeans always office, very laidback and great work-life balance (I only know about the corporate department managers though), Company does a lot of little things for the employees like seasonal lunch parties, fall, spring, etc. not just Christmas, opportunities for employee discounts on the brands, quarterly company-wide updates on the business from the execs - it's nice to know what's going on in the company you work for and how your part helps. Excellent tuition program! I can finally go back to school! Also, if you get tired or bored with your position and need a change of scene, you can apply to transfer to one of the other areas/departments if there's room and learn a whole new side of the accounting/finance.
Cons
Communication between the different accounting areas is not the best and since each group can only see/access part of the whole financial picture (checks and balances thing I guess), it is very necessary to relay your info to others in clear detail. Some related processes need to be cleaned up and updated but making that change is slow going when everyone is always pretty busy. Closing every month is a three day deadline which can mean working late every closing for some depending on how big your part of the closing is. The exec management keeps changing. Change is good, and this company is always changing since it is a fashion profile company, but the current execs have only been in for less than two years and are already going off with one of the brands and Kellwood has yet another new CEO. Hopefully the company vision and direction don't change too drastically again. I personally think the new CEO is of the same mind as the last, which is good.

Kellwood has a very advanced cutting edge approach to developing technology. IT employees are exposed to numerous new technologies and their support.
Cons
Kellwood is still working to establish sound financial footing to move forward with growth. The jobs at Kellwood have been unstable over the past few years.
