I have been working at Kemin Industries full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The family run company feels like a family. The owners RW and Mary are in the office almost every day and you can talk with them if you want. They come to many of the division meetings and celebrations. They are big on making sure to include everyone on the successes of new products or departments. The managers are generally pretty good at accommodating time off and working with schedules for family functions, kids, etc. The benefits seem average, but there are a lot of things that come to light later - birthday off, extra day every year at employment anniversary plus swag, complimentary health and hearing screens, distance doctor checks, free legal help, and travel advice. Bonuses come at the Holiday Season and are generous and in line with most other manufacturing facilities.

    Cons

Just like anywhere, there can be drama - some departments bring it on themselves, others just bend a little to far for the customer. Some managers are reluctant to make the tough decisions because they fear hurting someone's feelings. As a manufacturer, it is very bottom-line driven - money talks and if sales are not going well, things get shaky. BUT they have never had to do lay-offs. Pay is a little lower than market, but if you show that you are willing to put in the extra time, you will get the bumps up faster that typical.

    Advice to Management

Make sure to ask for the input of the people that decisions actually effect - they send out an annual survey that the uppers seem to look at, but there are often suggestions that go in there that are thought of to be anomalies and get pushed aside for something more profitable. ALSO, the bonus structure only relies on sales, as much as they say that everyone can pitch in.

I worked at Kemin Industries as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Kemin, across the board, emphasizes creating a culture that treats its employees incredibly well while still pushing them to work hard. The best place about Kemin is its company culture. As an intern, I was treated mostly as an equal, and had great opportunities to network and expand my professional skills.

    Cons

Kemin does not generally pay the highest for interns. The pay is higher than most "summer jobs" but not over the top. You would want to look into Kemin because of the business experience and networking opportunities they offer.

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing your employees to maximize their potential. Kemin's managers were always understanding of the people they employed and made them realize their importance within the company.

I worked at Kemin Industries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good company to work for. They pay well and have a good benefits package. Management goes out of their way to make everyone feel welcome and apart of the team.

    Cons

Some of the projects can be difficult to work on due to the company having multiple divisions so there can be breakdowns in communication or just a lack of care sometimes.

I have been working at Kemin Industries full-time

    Pros

Open , transparent and vision driven and with complete freedom and opportunity to grow. Very best salaries and variable comp compared to any other company in the industry. Very highly respected in the market place and with competitors too.

    Cons

Not much. I see the comments of disgruntled employees and non performers here. They had the opportunity to tell the management about their issues through appraisals and career dialogues etc.do not believe their words .

    Advice to Management

Kudos for the leadership and keep doing what you do
