I have been working at Kennametal full-time

    Pros

Friendly environment, Work-Life Balance, Compensation, Career Opportunities (growth).

    Cons

Benefits - But really not a con because the benefit cost falls in-line with all companies now.

    Advice to Management

My advise would be to not change the interviewing process. This is a benefit to the company and the interested party because both needs to know if he/she would be a great fit!

I worked at Kennametal full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Local leadership and operators. Decent benefits, good pay.

    Cons

Corporate direction. No work/life balance, no flexibility. Everyone has more responsibilities than their job title should have. Salary employees do not get overtime pay but in order to do the job well, it will require over 60 hours a week. Human Resources, Safety, and Quality managers are shared resources which puts more responsibilities on Supervisors and Engineers.

    Advice to Management

Be more organized and clearly lay out each employee’s job responsibilities. To be more effective as a company, invest in employees and stop abusing the temp system. Headcount reduction should not be the only priority and you will never achieve excellence by using this current model. Indirect labor is important and skeleton crews on off shifts will only do enough to get by.

Great place to work for with lots of room for advancement.

    Cons

A lot of changes can happen but that's not always a bad thing.

I have been working at Kennametal full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Wear products are consumable, so there's always a market to serve.

    Cons

Performing at a high level gets you nothing unless the ENTIRE company does well in the same year (perhaps quarter) that you do something spectacular.

    Advice to Management

Communism doesn't work in government, and it's not a good way to run a company.

    I worked at Kennametal full-time

    Pros

Employees stay or have been with employer for many Year's. Have work from home positions available.

    Cons

Main offices are out of reasonable driving distance

    Advice to Management

Semi annual reviews need to be improved

    Pros

Pretty good benefits. The health saving plan is worth it.
Colleagues are great! If you happen to get a good manager you are lucky! Hopefully you will not lose them. Company vehicles are a plus. Most all expenses are paid also. Which is another plus. There are many employees that have longevity here. But they do state the company has changed dramatically.

    Cons

Horrible management! Definitely not worth the efforts.
Extremely too much paperwork. When they ask you to hand in paperwork it may be same day and have no time to finish it. Not good managing. When the managers have been there awhile they are able to treat their employees however they wish and get away with it!
This is so unprofessional on so many levels!
Can treat you as horrible or unethical as they wish!
Does not matter to Kennametal’s HR. Seniority rules!

    Advice to Management

Hire managers that actually know what they are doing product wise. Show respect for the employees.
Actually care about what they are contributing to the company. Stop saying you are an ETHICAL company! This is a LIE! Stop having the employees take ethics test every quarter just for SHOW! What a joke!
Everyone knows how horrible the employees are treated here. Pathetic!

I have been working at Kennametal full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Pay is pretty good..

    Cons

Managers with no or little experience creates a halt in growth. No experience leads to numerous errors, sub-par training and it kills the morale. No/little support because the managers are incompetent in their fields and have the attitude that he/she does not have to know the jobs they are managing.

    Advice to Management

Hire managers that are experienced in managing in addition to a good bit of knowledge in the area that is being managed. Hire professional managers whom does not retaliate if you offer your opinions on how to make the job and environment more efficient. Listen to your employees and talk to your staff to understand the high turnover rates and what can be done to deter it.
