I worked at Kennametal (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The pay check is the only good thing.

    Cons

Management is a revolving door. If you are not related to someone there you are treated as an "outcast". Supervisors look the other way and let their favorites doing anything but their job. The leads are allowed to bully, aggressively belittle others, and get overtime for doing no work. They have managers in charge without any knowledge of the products or how to run the department. They have no business degree and no factory experience in which to properly do their job.

    Advice to Management

For the new CEO you better look past all the B.S. they are showing or feeding you and look at the numbers and talk to the employees one on one without a manager hovering over them because if they hover you know they have something to hide, A good manager is not afraid to let the employees speak to whom ever asks them a question. Get your unqualified managers out of there or your company will fail.

I have been working at Kennametal full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

None, every thing is going down the drain. Lost business to competition. Quality is very poor.Management has ruined this company.

    Cons

Lost a lots of benefits, Pto 5 days per year Gone.Profit Sharing which was about 18& paid out quarterly Gone. Stupid Management, with no care for the floor employees. Created a pay scale, but the top outs never change.Safety Strong, but lots of safety concerns. All in all what ever the problem is, its your fault.
Management favoritism. It's horrible. My advice for hourly workers is to pass taking their job if you can find something else.

    Advice to Management

They are the reason for, for loss of business. Bad quality products that are shipped to the customer anyway. Then returned for rework. Very stupid plant managers. No Hr. On premises.

    Pros

Great customers. Hard-working people in field sales, warehouses and plants. Cutting-edge technology and superior products.

    Cons

Poor management. They went through three Director's of the Americas in the 6 years I was there. They are now a asking for "voluntary" resignations from 1000 workers and the CEO you have listed dumped his stock months ago and resigned as there was unethical behavior involving profit reports.

    Advice to Management

I really don't think there is anything to say because they never listened to employees anyway. That was and continues to be their downfall.

I worked at Kennametal full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There were many talented people who worked at the location I was at. Most of them were very skilled and friendly.

    Cons

Employees were under-value and under-utilized. The culture is more like a dictatorship and collaboration does not happen very often. In my experience, management gave alot of lip-service to it's values but had no follow-through. Many times upper management's actions did not support the positive messages they tried to portray.

    Advice to Management

Realize that to maintain valuable people, you need to re-vamp how you view your employees. The top companies will offer many venues for personal and professional development and truly listen to their people for insights.
