    Pros

Getting a pay check every 2 weeks, good health insurance, thanks to our union, good benefits, thanks to our union

    Cons

Very little communication from Latrobe to us, poor communication from the plant manager - does not want to settle grievances, so everything is going to arbitration.2 years ago you enjoyed working there, now it's just the opposite. The plant manager is very controlling and it's either his way or the highway. He signed a contract with the union and does not honor it. He instituted Lean, which is not working the way it's supposed to be.

    Advice to Management

Start getting involved with the people and find out how it's really being run, and not just a flyby, really get involved with everyone

I worked at Kennametal full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Pays some of the bills.

    Cons

Minimal pay increase once a year and that only covers the increase in insurance costs. Nothing extra for your pocket. NOT family friendly at all. You are just a seat filler to the company. Nothing more. They do not care about the individuals. Lower level mgmt is horrible. If you ever move you you have to check your conscience at the door. No room for compassion. There are better companies out there. This one better get with the times quickly. Must learn how to allow employees to balance work/family. Don't be sick either. No sick time and you get charged and "event" for missing work. Even with a doctor's note. Too many cons to name.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the "little" people. Reward those that work hard. Make family a priority. Pay better.

I worked at Kennametal full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There were many talented people who worked at the location I was at. Most of them were very skilled and friendly.

    Cons

Employees were under-value and under-utilized. The culture is more like a dictatorship and collaboration does not happen very often. In my experience, management gave alot of lip-service to it's values but had no follow-through. Many times upper management's actions did not support the positive messages they tried to portray.

    Advice to Management

Realize that to maintain valuable people, you need to re-vamp how you view your employees. The top companies will offer many venues for personal and professional development and truly listen to their people for insights.

    Pros

There are some people that are friendly and very professional

    Cons

Management team manipulates team members and cause animosity and chaos between coworkers by promising positions that do not exist

    Advice to Management

Until there is a new management team is created with a modern way of thinking in the fort mill office there will always be a high turnover rate in the office. The place is a revolving door.

    Pros

The only pro to this place is the beautiful location and the fact it's an Eat n Park cafe! Makes the awful work day better when there is good food at a good price!

    Cons

Communication lacks at evey level and very old school in flexibility and work life balance. Most managers are micromanagers instead of realizing its 2015, not 1980 and they lack trust and the ability to teaching responsibility and leadership to employees. Most people have been in their role for way to long, so makes you think what value are they adding? They are in silos and tend to look at the little picture instead of Kennametal as a whole. Some departments lack team building events, or employee appreciation, there are no formal staff/group meetings to discuss questions and concerns, and most managers are too busy to help you with questions.

    Advice to Management

The focus after the VSP should be talent retention and it's not. Instead it's more of the same reports that are not value added, putting in extra hours without appreciation, Or the ability to earn some of those hours back by leaving early.

I worked at Kennametal full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great customers. Hard-working people in field sales, warehouses and plants. Cutting-edge technology and superior products.

    Cons

Poor management. They went through three Director's of the Americas in the 6 years I was there. They are now a asking for "voluntary" resignations from 1000 workers and the CEO you have listed dumped his stock months ago and resigned as there was unethical behavior involving profit reports.

    Advice to Management

I really don't think there is anything to say because they never listened to employees anyway. That was and continues to be their downfall.

    I worked at Kennametal full-time

    Pros

Long hours with overtime pay for the hourly. Long hours with NO overtime for the salaried leads to disgruntled exempt employees. EXPECT long hours if you work for this company and plenty to do. You will not lose your job when you work 70+ hours....

    Cons

Mistreatment of the hourly employees is rampant, as well as, verbal abuse to boot! The plant manager is a Bull in the China shop and loves to create conflict but will not let the managers handle problem employees once he creates the situation. The top supervisor over production is inept with only a high school degree and a whole lot of PRIDE which leads to fits of anger and outburst of profanity towards employees. The HR looks past this behavior due to the regional VP exhibiting the same flaws. DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY, IN ROANOKE RAPIDS, OR YOU WILL REGRET IT.

    Advice to Management

Profits are necessary but to earn them put qualified people in the lead positions by hiring based on qualifications NOT time in the plant.

    Pros

    very smart people working there

    Cons

They just cant get out of there own way, way too internally focused.
Again too much about internal presentations and not enough about customers

    Advice to Management

I'm concerned that customers are not the focus and will leave for the competition
