I have been working at Kennedy Krieger Institute full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Im sure the culture and diversity in the company is great.

    Cons

The care management department is the worse Run. The Director and management staff here is a joke. They have high favoritism in the department so if you not in with the clicks you can forget it. Not worth the stress and hassle they put you through.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the director, and train properly.

    Pros

helping children and families who struggle with rare disabilities and diseases, benefits, connection to Johns Hopkins Hospital. Good work life balance

    Cons

Dysfunctional organization, Upper-Management in denial about needed change, good ole boys club among upper-management, promotion comes based on number of years instead of most qualified. Company itself is resistant to change

    Advice to Management

Lead-do not follow. Embrace growth and let your employees know that KKI values them.

I have been working at Kennedy Krieger Institute full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Kennedy Krieger has a well-developed mission statement that is widely disseminated throughout its programs. When you come to work here, you will be well-trained and held to a high standard. As a classroom teacher, you will receive administrative support. You'll have engaged and well-trained classroom assistants. The work is extremely meaningful.

    Cons

There is always a lot of work to be done. The individualized nature of each child's program requires a great deal of planning, adapting, data management, and creating unique materials. The day-to-day work is exhausting, both physically and mentally. Raises are infrequent.

    Advice to Management

More flexibility with staff schedules would go a long way toward creating better morale. Teachers should expect yearly step increases. A sabbatical program could help with teacher retention.
