I worked at Kennedy Krieger Institute full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

very rewarding if you like the population you're working with, very up-to-date on current research and evidence-based practices, sites that receive more funding (like CARD) treat their employees very well, good benefits. My rating to recommend to a friend is with conditions (depends on which position they would be applying for)

    Cons

depending on the site/ the funding, the direct-care-workers (aides) do not get treated as well as employees in "higher" positions, low pay

    Advice to Management

invest in direct care workers, they are the people that have the most contact with the students/ clients

    Pros

Working with kids was great! You had the ability to really change some of the lives of the children who needed it most.

    Cons

Not much room to move up. Positions seem to very limited, but you have the opportunity to work in other departments for overtime.

I worked at Kennedy Krieger Institute full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Interesting work with smart people. State-of-the-art equipment and labs. You are part of the Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine, which is number one in the world, or should be!

    Cons

Not a very safe area of Baltimore, so parking and housing can be difficul, but there is a metro station right under the campus, so you can live some distance away. The pay is not at the top, but you are working at Johns Hopkins, your resume will forever shine!

    Advice to Management

I suggest finding better ways to help researchers develop ideas and find funding sources. Free seminars on writing research plans and, proofreading applications and general guidance would be very helpful.

Staff comradery is a great bonus. In our school environment, everyone works together to not only support the students but to also support each other. Benefits are really good.

    Cons

Pay is comparable to other non-public schools, however, lower than public schools.

    Pros

Decent salaries. Good benefits if you research everything and find what works best for you. To utilize the best benefits they make you jump through hoops but most employers do that. Easy to transfer to other position.

    Cons

The institute says they are very diverse but that diversity is only applies to certain positions and departments.
