I worked at Kent County Council full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great holiday, good train links and its right in the center of town. Most of the time theres challenging work that provides real learning.

    Cons

Getting work done and communication with siloed services is makes it really difficult to to work as a single council. If you care about the work you do and more importantly the benefit to the people in the Kent then you might be at a bit off a loss working here.

    Advice to Management

Stop making cuts to services and make sure moneys spent in the right way, its pretty narrow minded to sell services privately and expect to see saving in the long run.

I have been working at Kent County Council full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good payroll, good pension scheme, good perks for employees and money off shopping/gym etc.

    Cons

Not enough funding for schools so budgets are cut and staffing levels are too low.
Lots of pressure for schools to intake more students.

    Advice to Management

Employ more staff to support the education system

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Some lovely people, and generous training.

By the way, Paul Carter is the leader of the council, a politician not CEO

    Cons

Held back by lack of government funding and constant restructures.

    Advice to Management

Politicians have too much influence over how the paid service works, they should be deciding what is done, not concerning themselves with how it is done, or which individuals do it.

    Pros

Great perks and the role was exciting - able to engage and help a wide customer base - huge ambassador of LRA services

    Cons

As an experienced member of staff with nearly two years experience I was eager for promotion and development, but after several requests and hints over many months, I left the organisation for external promotion.

    Advice to Management

Implement a successful and robust succession planning rational.

I worked at Kent County Council full-time

    Pros

Great holiday allowance. Very good hourly rate. sickness pay. Great company ethos and opportunities to gain bonus' and career advancement.

    Cons

sickness policy, if a person was off work for more than three days in 6 months, then there was a disciplinary. I have two young children and suffered with colds and flu through the winter months, because I didn't want to spread the virus to our vulnerable service users, I took time off work when I was in the incubation period. I received a disciplinary for doing this.

I worked at Kent County Council part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I was working full time & wanted to retire. However I was given the opportunity of a job share and go part time for the last two years of my employment. Good run down to retirement.
Pay good, good pension scheme, flexible employer, career opportunities with training provided.

    Cons

Less career opportunities towards the end of my employment due to down sizing. Continually reorganising. Quite disruptive

    Advice to Management

Think carefully about reorganising, as very expensive and disruptive to people's work and personal lives. More home working should be encouraged.
