Trying to do good things for the people of Kent

    Cons

    Ridiculous workloads
    Constant change

    Not enough support from managers
A good health and well being package which is either abused or not implemented - depending on who you are

I worked at Kent County Council full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good salary, decent pension, passionate colleagues.

    Cons

Management are happy to make people redundant in the expectation that other people will pick up their work, and some work will just disappear somewhere.

    Advice to Management

Value your staff more, as your targets say 'challenge' things that should be questioned, don't get all acrimonious and defensive and tell staff to get lost when they do, actually the words were 'if you don't like it you know what to do, there are plenty of other people that want your job.'

    Pros

Great Team, lovely school and long career opportunities

    Cons

Pay and work load. Work life balance!

    Advice to Management

Pay increase needed and greater support that we are professionals and should be praised for all our efforts rather than constantly feeling under scrutiny.

    Pros

Not many really - the Local Government Pension Scheme is all I can think of

    Cons

Too much pressure, too few staff, staff leaving not replaced, a pretence of being dedicated to serving the public, but everyone is too stressed and pressured to do a good job.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with the staff, and TALK to the staff to find out what is really going on.

    Pros

The people here are amazing to work with. There are lots of opportunities.

    Cons

Bureaucracy and politics wastes a lot of time. Shame that there has to be so many reorganisations.

    Advice to Management

    Trust the staff more.

I worked at Kent County Council full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The children and parents. School holidays. Good sick pay. Lovely staff apart from senior leadership

    Cons

Head teachers are given too much power. So many staff bullied out but KCC never questioned why. No HR in the schools or was actually told staff couldn't access directly. My confidence has been seriously knocked and I was bullied out of a job I loved and was good at.

    Advice to Management

Seriously KCC why didn't you notice that staff were dropping like flies. Staff in schools are so vulnerable and reliant on the head. Really feel let down

I have been working at Kent County Council full-time

    Pros

encouraged to share your thoughts and views from day one, open to any and all suggestions and plenty of training and support is available if you need it. its a completely different experience to working for a private company

    Cons

could do with updating the IT as it is a hamper on productivity sometimes. The onsite refreshments are rather expensive!

    Advice to Management

make yourself known to the staff more, dont lock yourselves away in your office.

I worked at Kent County Council part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very motivated adult students wanting to improve their career prospects - they were a pleasure to teach.
Very high level of job satisfaction.

    Cons

Poorly organised administrative systems requiring multiple entry of data items. This caused huge inefficiencies, requiring tutors to spend more time on administration than on teaching, learning and assessmemt.

    Unsupportive management

    Advice to Management

    - Modernise the student administration systems to match the efficiency of other providers in the post-compulsory education sector.
