I have been working at Kentucky Community and Technical College System full-time

    Pros

Great benefits (vacation, sick time, institutional closing, retirement, health insurance)
Has a great mission, serves Kentucky

    Cons

Very low pay, unless you are one of the chosen ones. Lack of raises and promotions. And if there is a promotion, so much red tape in HR.
    No vision insurance
Very little flexibility on working from home.
    Need more flexibility in schedules.
HR leaves a lot to be desired. Very vindictive, secretive. They choose how they want to interpret labor laws.
    Too many meetings.
    Very low morale.
PPE system is ridiculous and useless.

    Advice to Management

KCTCS could be a great place to work if upper management actually cared about their employees instead of padding their pockets. Even events created to boost morale become fun suckers when it's forced fun and that's if the events even get approved. Quite a few of the System Directors need to be booted. Create a system to allow feedback from employees on how to improve. Don't allow some departments to have more perks than others (i.e. work from home capabilities) And don't allow some employees in a department to have more perks than others especially if they are abusing the perks while others get none.

I worked at Kentucky Community and Technical College System part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Amazing colleagues; Students that cared about their education; plenty of autonomy

    Cons

Low pay; adjuncts are disposable. Even after I earned the additional credits I needed for full time employment, they did not even have the decency to review those credits, let alone consider a full time position for me.

    Advice to Management

    Value your adjunct staff.

I worked at Kentucky Community and Technical College System full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Students were great to teach, overall.
Division and Department heads are competent or better.
Faculty is very supportive with other faculty, staff, and students.
Most employees believe in the mission and educational value of KCTCS.

    Cons

Salaries are generally below national averages.
Work schedules are rarely consistent unless you have tenure.
Not very much communication between the academic side and the technical side.
Too many administrators, not enough full time faculty.
    Adjunct Faculty woefully under paid.
    PPE review system is ridiculous.

    Advice to Management

Stop bragging about how great a place it is to work and do some real community outreach so prospective students understand all the good things you have to offer.

    Pros

Enjoyed the interaction with students! Staff was always helpful. Focused on helping students!

    Cons

Not a lot of opportunity for promotion. On occassion someone would use their influence to intimidate. It was difficult to complain.

    Advice to Management

Listen and really hear what concerns are expressed by employees!
