I have been working at Kentucky Department of Corrections full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

Can't recommend working for state now.

    Cons

No raises in past, no one in sight. Problems with pension. High turnover. Always short staffed. Public unaware about no raises. Not allowed to talk to media. No union to fight for us. No idea if or when next raise is. Too many years in to leave.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to high turnover. Let all Legislators know. Stop balancing state budgets by not giving raises. Raise taxes, legalize other things that would bring in money for state.

I have been working at Kentucky Department of Corrections full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

The hours and holidays are nice. It's relatively easy to take a day off. You have flexibility to do what you need to do.

    Cons

Very low pay, no cost of living raises or otherwise. No or limited promotional potential. The State works hard at not being efficient.

    Advice to Management

Stop allowing retirees to come back and lock up supervisor positions. Leadership is stagnant. Turnover is high because fast food managers can make way more for less headache.
