I worked at Kern County Superintendent of Schools full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Even though I was not there long, the people in ALL departments were exceptionally good to me. Everyone was friendly and helpful despite my shortcomings. I loved it there. I wish certain events in my life would have came at a different time.

    Cons

None. I do not feel there were any negatives.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.

I worked at Kern County Superintendent of Schools full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good Team of Assessment and Treatment Personnel

    Good Environment to Work in

Nice Population of Children to Work with

Good Support Personnel (Translators/Interpreters for Hispanic Children), etc.

    Cons

I dictated my reports and the reports took a long time to come back. If dictating I would recommend purchasing dictation/transcribing software from Olympus for use on your own computer. Otherwise, the other psychologists at my site did their own typing.

The boss is not a psychologist, and is not on site. He hears rumors or email from teachers, etc. complaining about how you are late in evaluating children, and believes you are not able to do your job adequately. That and my late reports got me terminated after two years. To stay in the position you must do your own public relations with the boss and teachers and principals.

    Advice to Management

When you get a rumor or email from Personnel about another person, don't believe it first without checking it out with the person it is about.

Schedule regular times to meet with your Personnel individually that are not disciplinary or required assessment meetings.
