I have been working at Ketchum full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Overall I'd say this is a good place to work and I'd recommend people to work here.

    -Smart people
-Lots of interesting clients and work
-Opportunity to grow and build a career
-Really great culture, love the CEO
-Milestones of the month are great
    -Drink cart every Friday!

    Cons

There aren't any huge cons that make Ketchum different from any other PR firm. The pay could be better.

    -Not great pay
    -Not enough vacation
-Lack of integration between 3rd and 4th floors
-Meeting billability goals can be stressful

    Advice to Management

More vacation days would be great!
I enjoy the transparency of the agency - monthly meetings are great

I worked at Ketchum full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Attracts lots of smart, strategic PR thinkers; many great clients; opportunity to work on a variety of projects from corporate to brand marketing to crisis

    Cons

Sometimes team resources stretched too thin and focus on hourly billing/bottom line can get a little old - but that's a lot of large agency

    Advice to Management

Try to connect more with the younger team members - develop clear and consistent growth plans

I have been working at Ketchum full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great culture; something different every day; great team; never a dull moment; fast-paced; always something new; access to leadership at all levels of the agency; collaborative environment (everyone pulling together to complete projects on time); excellent process in place for reviews (both formal and informal); very creative - no idea is a bad idea; room for growth at all levels.

    Cons

Long hours and no overtime; no reimbursement for using public transit (bus, metro); it's a big company so there is some level of bureacracy that you have to wade through.

I worked at Ketchum as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Beautiful office/work environment with private rooms for client calls and great conference rooms
    -Fun clients and accounts
-You get to work with some of the most creative, professional, friendly and patient colleagues
-Interns all the way up to the Presidents work on the same campaigns/client accounts/projects
-Interns and entry-level employees are highly valued. HR and upper level employees have regular check-in meetings with interns/entry-level employees to see how the work experience is going and what feedback you have for management
-Fun parties and activities! ex. Bring your dog to work day

    Cons

-Not the best entry-level salary. Especially considering the cost of living in San Francisco
-Everyone constantly runs about 5 minutes late to internal meetings
-You work with colleagues all around the nation so sometimes you rarely get face-to-face interaction with teammates

    Advice to Management

-Continue seeking feedback from all levels of employees and making suggested improvements.

I worked at Ketchum as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I was given a lot more opportunity than I would have at many other agencies, as an intern. I was given a wide range of projects to work on and very little busy work (basically the opposite of my time at Edelman). My supervisors took an active interest in helping me improve my skills and helping me find a job at another agency, when there weren't any openings at Ketchum at the end of my internship.

    Cons

The senior leadership (VP and above) didn't seem to take a very active role in talent development and retention. My primary account supervisors were great at this, but then again, they both left the agency not too long after I did.

    Advice to Management

Put a greater emphasis on helping younger team members grow and move up the ranks, to avoid losing talent to your competitors.

    - A lot of growth potential, hard work does not go unnoticed
    - Great culture, positive work environment
    - Great training offerings
    - In NY you have a lot of exposure to the Sr. leaders of Ketchum
    - Drink cart Fridays
    - Kick-ball, bowling, run club, book club

    Cons

    - Work life balance can be challenging during peak seasons
    - Some processes can take some time

I worked at Ketchum full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people are wonderful to work with. It's a fast paced, dynamic environment filled with a lot of smart and motivated people. There are a lot of career advancement opportunities if you seek them out.

    Cons

There can be a disconnect between senior management and the rest of the staff. If you want to advance in your career, you need to take the initiative to make it happen or else you can easily be overlooked.

    Advice to Management

Ask the right questions, listen to your staff and show action to address areas of concern.

extremely competitive, but this is also a plus

    Pros

In a town and industry that can be frustratingly crowded with self promoters, the team at Ketchum is remarkably collegial, professional and dedicated to client service. From top to bottom, I'm not sure I've worked with a more talented, hard-working group of people.

    Cons

I don't think there's anything unique to Ketchum that isn't problematic in the industry as a whole. Clients are demanding, hours can be long, and the job itself is stressful (but comes with high rewards).

    Advice to Management

I know the company took significant steps to avoid laying off staff during the downturn, and I hope they show an equal dedication to sharing the benefits of a stronger performance this year.

    Pros

The people are genuinely nice and care about each other, which can be rare with PR agencies.
Opportunities for growth within company are strong.
Ability to get exposure to smart people to learn from.
    Interesting client work that's fun.

    Cons

Career mobility is limited by years of experience and not ability.
Growth can be stunted if gap between supervisor and direct report is not wide.
Disconnect between strategic decisions about future of the agency and the feet on the ground doing the work.

    Advice to Management

Get digitally/social media savvy fast, as it's a major point of differentiation
