Senior Management Continues to Push Ketchum Into Decline

      Pros

Great people at the local level and wonderful creativity

      Cons

Workers are consolidated into small, noisy work spaces and are miserable about it Latest restructuring inexplicably let go of experienced talent New structure inhibits growth vs. fostering growth/providing client value Little work-life balance Unrealistic growth goals has led to no bonuses/rewards for several years Declining culture Reduced local office presence/identity Increasing turnover (employees and clients)

      Partner, Director

Jan 13, 2019 - Director in New York, NY

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Top-tier talent as colleagues, food expertise is second to none, extreme dedication to client service and delivering top quality programs, supportive atmosphere, great people, great creative.

      Cons

Too much emphasis on delivering very high profit margin to Omnicom makes client teams spend too much time managing billings and staff billability. Support services have been cut beyond bare bones. Self-seeking bad behavior from ladder climbers is often not addressed.

      Best Agency I've Worked At

Oct 9, 2015 - Vice President in New York, NY
      Recommend

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Ketchum's strong senior leadership, best-in-class investment when it comes to learning and training for their employees all contributes to a fun, family-like community to work with. Great people make a great culture that centers around strong, strategic decision-making for not just our clients but the future of the agency as well.

      Cons

The office space and location leaves a lot to be desired. Sometimes the conservative culture of the business and Omnicom can hinder creative risk-taking.

Great boutique consulting experience, with a dash of entrepreneurial spirit

      Pros

Great people, interesting projects and with access to Ketchum's client roster and a wide variety in the project work (internal communications, OD, change management)

      Cons

Less opportunity to specialize or focus on one part of the business. Sometimes viewed as an afterthought (as a specialty business within a PR agency). The work/life balance is often sub-par but the limited travel is a nice feature.

Ketchum really cares about its people and leadership works hard to promote a strong culture.

      Pros

Great people and fun (but hard-working) atmosphere. There is opportunity to work with great clients and leadership is good at matching assignments to passion.

      Cons

There isn't a particularly strong culture of post-work gatherings of employees; while people enjoy colleagues' company at work, most people go their separate ways after work rather than socialize with one another. I would consider this a minor criticism, however.

      Pros

Great people and interesting accounts, good work-life balance, fun holiday parties and supportive team members

      Cons

Low paying salary, a big emphasis on "the numbers" and meeting projections; took forever to get reimbursed from expense reports and were expected to use our own credit cards on company expenses

Lots of opportunity - just slow to integrate

      Mar 21, 2016 -  in Atlanta, GA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Great people. Lots of opportunity for growth. You can define your path based on your passions and interests.

      Cons

Can be challenging to navigate politically. Some offices are more integrated and forward thinking than others. There are still a number of PR traditionalists who are slower to adopt new digital practices.

      Pros

Great opportunity for growth, opportunities within the company that don't exist at small agencies. Great people.

      Cons

Low salaries and office politics make it difficult to feel valued. Some people are kept at the same levels with no growth for years while others are quickly promoted. Hours are extremely tough.
