    Pros

The people in your group can make or break your experience. Junior people get a lot of access to senior people.

    Cons

Management and the risk management group often ask for a lot of reports and documentation that need to be processed and monitored.

    Advice to Management

Better articulation of Key's strategy would be helpful.

I have been working at KeyBank full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible work hours. Work/life balance is important. Competitive pay. Co-workers are friendly and easy to work with. Plenty of opportunities in the Cleveland area. Company does a great job of promoting from within the company/department. Bosses do not micromanage. Just get the work done and management is happy.

    Cons

Constant change of structure (no layoffs, just restructuring). Technology is out of date but manageable. Weaker employees tend to slip through the cracks for at least 6-12 months due to management avoiding confrontation.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in people right out of college and be open about career development. Transparency is important when changes are constantly happening. Don't forget about the experienced employees.

I worked at KeyBank full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A few exceptional people. Corporate bank a good place to be, but that is the only good place - avoid Community bank.

    Cons

RIFs routine due to frequent major changes to strategy. Bonus payouts inconsistent and devoid of transparency - manager discretion dictated payout based on funding pool.

    Advice to Management

Develop a thoughtful strategy and see it through to fruition. Employees on eggshells with constant threat of job loss.

I have been working at KeyBank full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Clear strategy and increasing investment in people after wilderness years with a focus on what matters.

Culture supporting change agenda and improved talent to take advantage of many assets Key has to win.

Continued investment in key strategic priorities including digital, commercial and mortgage position the company to excel in the next few years.

    Cons

Lack of adherence to true performance management allows poor performers to skate by to the detriment of the business.

Combined with elements of "we have always done it this way" can make improving performance a challenge.

Resourcing can also be a challenge. Need to invest in shared services resources who know how to communicate with the business and can drive a shared agenda forward.

    Advice to Management

Add conviction to performance management and improve communication of the strategy.

    Pros

A very well run money center bank with diverse businesses and a focus on adding fee revenue from the investment banking business to the traditional net interest income business of lending and retail banking. Key hires great people and exhibits solid midwest values in how it treats employees. This is a great place to work

    Cons

Government regulation has made operating in a bank more and more difficult. So much compliance paperwork makes work in any bank increasingly difficult.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the focus on hiring great people, adding fee based revenue streams to complement the NII businesses, and don't forget about lending to the middle-market where there are a tremendous number of great opportunities.

    Pros

Company has great benefits and and great people

    Cons

At times there may seem to be a lack of vision at Executive level leadership, however great and smart people in lower level positions make it work.

    Advice to Management

Develop and communicate a long term strategy for the bank and then give it time to play out.
