I worked at KeyW full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Keyw has solid opportunites on contract.

    Cons

Keyw has been going through some transitions with the dumping of Hexis (short sale), purchase of Sotera (which only helped Sotera - and devalued Keyw stock) and modification of 401k. It feels less and less like the company Len created and it's obvious with the removal of the original management staff, it's not going to be anymore.
Keyw was doing some top research work but has just pushed so much money into business development (i.e writing proposals all day with no technical knowledge gain) they are loosing their technical edge and research projects.
Keyw also implemented a restrictive 401k, i.e matching at 10% but they keep your money in a fund that is only distributed at year end so they keep all interest. In current market that is like 14% loss on interest. It would be better if they offered say 8% with normal distribution options, or give employees the option.

The contracting market for software developers, especially cleared developers, is getting tight, if they keep up the benefits nerfing not sure why you would want to stay their vs a small company when they already eliminated overhead programs + government has guaranteed small business contracts.

Since I started at keyw out of 10 people I worked directly with, only 2 have remained.

    Advice to Management

Figure out what you want to be and give employees more options. I don't want tickets, I don't want to wait till january to get my 401k matching.

    Pros

Very good mission; focused organization; employee oriented and willing to take risk to improve the company

    Cons

It can be a stressful environment due to the fast pace. You have an excellent opportunity to excel or fail if you don't do well under these conditions

    Advice to Management

    Stay focused

I have been working at KeyW full-time

    Pros

Very strong technical talent gained through many acquisitions of niche companies in the DoD and commercial security markets. Exceptional programs to promote work-life balance, and stressing the importance of "there is more to life than work". Medical and other other benefits programs are some of the best I've seen in this market.

    Cons

Previous challenges in integrating pockets of technical talent into a cohesive strategic plan for the future.
Too much focus in the market on the success of Hexis. KEYW is a strong and well respected government contractor engaged in meaningful, long-term work on a wide variety of contracts...it's frustrating to see the largest, most successful part of KEYW virtually ignored in the market.

    Advice to Management

Take advantage of the opportunity with a new CEO to clarify the strategic vision of the company, and align the various pockets of talent into this strategic vision. Begin to re-focus Wall Street investors on the growth potential in the government market by capitalizing on openings in current contracts, and taking market share from competitors in the space.

    Pros

Company is implementing career tracks to give guidance on a path towards management or remaining in the professional arena. I think this shows that management has been listening to what its employees have been saying - that opportunities for growth are important to their happiness and work well-being.

    Cons

I wish the company would stop spending so much money on its morale programs, and would use that money for bonuses or salary increases instead.

I have been working at KeyW full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fantastic benefits package. Haven't gotten annoying with corporate pep-rallying and "stongly-encouraged" networking-for-networking's sake and seem to care a lot about keeping employees happy and therefore more motivated and productive.

    Cons

General irritations that go along with being a cleared government contractor. Not a lot of personal interaction/attention from management which can be good (little to no micromanaging) or bad (harder to get audience to address individual issues).

    Advice to Management

Maybe more face-to-face time with the little guys from lower to middle leadership...

    Pros

Wonderful company benefits and other perks like zoo tickets and sports tickets give-aways. Lovely corporate headquarters building. Competitive salaries.

    Cons

Newish company needs some solid process development and a sharing of vision from senior leadership.

    Advice to Management

Get everyone on the same page working toward the same goals by sharing a vision and mission.

    Pros

There's a lot of genuine personality with the management. They never seem like over-worked automatons. The benefits package is top-notch, including tuition reimbursement.

    Cons

    Training opportunities are somewhat slim.
