I have been working at KeyW full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, big enough to provide lots of opportunities, but small enough that you know most of the people you work with on a daily basis. It still feels fun even though the company is bigger. There have been big changes in upper management but the new top team seems to be unified and they communicate with employees frequently, there's lots of information about what's going on. Also, managers in the company seem to get regular management training which doesn't happen in most companies.

    Cons

There's not much mixing with the new company we acquired, Sotera. I would like to learn more about them

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, and keep up the communication. People like me like to know what's going on.

I have been working at KeyW full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Gov contracting is a known quantity. What you see is what you get. KeyW has been very upfront about hurdles and challenges to the overall contract roadmap.

    Cons

Newly acquired from Sotera, no word on changes to individual contracts or salaries until next year. Part of that is legacy and changeover so it’s not like someone is at fault.

    Advice to Management

Oversharing of golf days and all is fine. Sharing the roadmap for careers with new acquires is sorely wanted. What can be done about contract changes, what positions are available to move to, etc. Otherwise everything is great so far.

I worked at KeyW full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Keyw has solid opportunites on contract.

    Cons

Keyw has been going through some transitions with the dumping of Hexis (short sale), purchase of Sotera (which only helped Sotera - and devalued Keyw stock) and modification of 401k. It feels less and less like the company Len created and it's obvious with the removal of the original management staff, it's not going to be anymore.
Keyw was doing some top research work but has just pushed so much money into business development (i.e writing proposals all day with no technical knowledge gain) they are loosing their technical edge and research projects.
Keyw also implemented a restrictive 401k, i.e matching at 10% but they keep your money in a fund that is only distributed at year end so they keep all interest. In current market that is like 14% loss on interest. It would be better if they offered say 8% with normal distribution options, or give employees the option.

The contracting market for software developers, especially cleared developers, is getting tight, if they keep up the benefits nerfing not sure why you would want to stay their vs a small company when they already eliminated overhead programs + government has guaranteed small business contracts.

Since I started at keyw out of 10 people I worked directly with, only 2 have remained.

    Advice to Management

Figure out what you want to be and give employees more options. I don't want tickets, I don't want to wait till january to get my 401k matching.
