Good staff development and helpful member of the team to teach highly interesting enrichment classes.

    Cons

Parents can not always afford the classes so the classes get cancelled.

    Advice to Management

    Continue doing a great job

I worked at Kid's College (More than a year)

    Pros

The pros are the San Marcos School District. Very nice District.

    Cons

Only employs you for 2 hours a day. Still, the commute is nasty, the 78 during rush hour. They have a high turn over of teaching employees.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to treat their professionals with much more respect. For example, when they and a teacher make an agreement on School, day, time and subject, they change it and say, "OH we moved you here!" You say, "Um, I did not agree to that!"

They do not learn from their mistakes. Kits have lots of pieces.
Kits get lopsided when students interact with them. Students would put pieces in what ever kit, not returning to original kit. I suggested color coding the pieces so the students can sort the kits back to equal quantities. They wanted me to do the class that included those kits, I asked them if they have color coded them. They said, "NO" I said "Nope."

  3. "Preschool-focused hagwon with weak leadership and financial trouble."

    Pros

Employers were reliable with pay and offered a delicious school lunch to teachers.

    Cons

Employers were unreliable with expectations regarding amount of curriculum development, classroom management, and even paying unannounced visits to employees apartments just to check up on them (apparently fearing they may quit unannounced, this was according to the owner himself). Note: This was not my experience at the other schools I have worked for in East Asia. Also, some materials and resources essential to carrying out successful lesson plans were not planned for or were deemed too expensive for the school to purchase. This was a weekly concern.

    Advice to Management

    None

I worked at Kid's College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay, wonderful coworkers, provided apartment, working with great children and parents. They have a week of training. They show you what materials you will use and how to set up your classroom schedule. You get a bonus at the end of the year if you don't miss a day. They paid for our flight in and out of the country. You get great immersion into their culture.

    Cons

Be prepared to work very hard. Take you work home with you. You work more hours then they say you will. No overtime. Sometime the directors think they are always right and don't always assist with complaints or concerns of your students.

    I worked at Kid's College full-time

    Pros

Every class has a native home room teacher who is allowed to control the class freely and teach using their own style and methods.

    Cons

The supplied teaching materials are outdated, inappropriate and irrelevant. This restricts the teacher's freedom to apply his/her own methods and creativity and bores the children, leading to misbehaviour.

    Advice to Management

Seek well trained teachers. Look for modern, innovative teaching strategies and books/materials that reflect this. Put the education and love for the children first.

    Pros

It pays a reasonable salary on time and hires with little or no experience. Housing is acceptable though some people get substandard.

    Cons

work 12 hours+ a day doing side work that should be delegated to assistants. Unpredictable management and snobby clientele, never satisfied.

    Advice to Management

communication with and between employees and customers, demands should be communicated and not left to fester. have assistants do more that text their boyfriends.
