I worked at Kiewit Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Very exciting projects. You will be given lots or responsibility quickly and must be able to handle it. Kiewit is known to bring up new engineers quickly. The best thing about Kiewit is getting them on your resume. I will always recommend Kiewit to any new engineer. Get them on your resume and you will be headhunted nonstop. Put in a few years and move on.

    Cons

-You will work/live/breath Kiewit. I constantly worked at a minimum 70 hrs/wk. Relocation to new projects is given at little to no notice. Expect favorability and un-equal opportunity between colleagues. Kiewit choses your career path and everyone is given different opportunities to move up in the company. Some engineers can move up quickly due to being in the right place at the right time. Others go unnoticed their entire career. Kiewit currently is undergoing a very problematic turnover rate among 1-2yr new engineers. Between Kiewit burnout and lots of better paying jobs with a better work/life balance are out there. The construction market is hot right now and Kiewit isn't keeping up. Kiewit will make many promises to you that will not go farther than a conversation.

    Advice to Management

To retain newer engineers you cannot treat them like cattle. Have a good conversation with new grads about their career goals and ambitions. Respect their personal lives and show that Kiewit can take care of their employees at the individual level.

I have been working at Kiewit Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great Supervisor, Great Co-workers and great benefits.

    Cons

Pay could be better. The manager for this department does not believe in life work balance. If you want to succeed and grow your career do not work under this management. You will be miserable. One mistake is all it takes to be seen as a bad employee. High turnover rate is only going to get worst.

    Advice to Management

Replace management. Directors need to be more involved in the way management treats its employees. This department can’t succeed if it’s employees do not feel supported and cared for.

I worked at Kiewit Corporation full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Benefits & PTO allowance

    Cons

If you are a minority do not bother. Run like a fraternity and lord of the flies where your coworkers are encouraged to step on you to get ahead. Not about doing your job but getting noticed by management. Middle managers promoted ahead of their skill set and maturity level. Anyone over a certain age is not welcome

    Advice to Management

Stop treating the company like your piggy bank. Decrease nepotism and promote and base opportunities on merit and qualifications not their willingness to kiss up. Hire an HR group with backbone to weed out bad management and not those who rubber stamp your agenda while disregarding policy, the law, and common decency.

I have been working at Kiewit Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Kiewit will reward their employees who work hard. They have a second to none training program for their craft and staff, and they have amazing benefits - stock opportunities, health care, etc

    Cons

Kiewit will ask a lot of you - move across the United States with little notice, work 60-70+ hours a week. They also don't do a great job relocating people to preferred areas of the country. Work life balance is not ideal.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your people who you have invested 10+ years if they want to live in a particular area of the country.

I have been working at Kiewit Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working for the name. Okay training schools in Denver. (Only if you get chosen) Good PTO days.

    Cons

    -No mentorship
    -No life/work balance
-VERY low pay compared to other companies in the industry
-Move you around with little to no relocation packages(you have to fight for it)
    - Management is not understanding and you can NOT voice your opinion on what you would like to do in terms of your position/career.
-Expect to make Kiewit your life if you end up joining.
-They choose your career path for you and you do not have a say in it.
-You are just an asset. Period.

    Advice to Management

    Where do I start?!

    Pros

The Kiewit Technology Group is big on training up there people and ensuring they have the right tools and knowledge to effectively do their jobs

    Cons

    Advice to Management

In order to keep good technology professionals, you need to pay them the money they deserve
