      Pros

Looks good on your resume. Large scale jobs

      Cons

Long hours, must work weekends. Health insurance is below industry standard with large deductible and out of pocket costs. COLA allowance is never enough. If they move you to a new City, they'll hardly pay for your Uhaul. Superintendent I worked under wouldn't even make the time to speak to me. The entire team was expected to be at work from 5am to 6pm and work Saturdays. After expressing concerns about the long hours and lack of direction from my supervisor to upper management, the reviews started. Superintendent set up reviews to document bad performance even though I could hardly get a word with him. Had weekly meetings to review cost code performance, but I couldn't get a word out of my superintendent. Complete joke having to explain why the codes were tanking when the super didn't communicate. Field engineers are expected to be onsite, but not enough pool trucks are available so you had to drive your personal if you want to do your job. In summary, I was stoked to work there but turned out to be a horrible experience. Could go on and on, but should've believed the hundred other bad reviews. A year later came across one of the guys and turns out more than half the team had moved on to other companies. No bonus for engineers BTW.

Difficult if not passionate about the work

      Pros

Learn a lot about an operation. Excellent smart, devoted, and talented people working around you. Can have a sense of community. Incredible types of work done safely.

      Cons

Extremely high expectations. Typical work structure in corporate. maybe be wary if you a minority. However long it takes to get it done mentality. 10.5-16 hour days. Been on 11 on 3 days off since start of employment at Kiewit. Biggest issue is the hours. You aren't paid hourly so you 20-45 hours you work overtime every week is unpaid. They aren't going to take care of you.

      Opportunity and Challenge

Jun 1, 2021 - Structural Engineer in Houston, TX

      Pros

Kiewit offers employees almost endless opportunities to pursue interesting and technically challenging work, both as an engineer or constructor. As an engineer you are directly connected to the construction of the projects you support and most times have the opportunity to actually be part of the construction team. The breadth of markets served exposes engineers to many different construction and design techniques.

      Cons

The work can be demanding and fast paced. Weekend work and unexpected travel can be common depending on job role.

      Pros

Lots of free time when bids are low. 9/80 schedule, subject to change.

      Cons

When bids start to come in, the heavy load can often have you working late nights and even weekends. But that is expected on any job you may have.
