I worked at Kiewit Corporation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

As an intern I was exposed to many new and great things that involved Kiewit. Their manpower, equipment, safety, benefits, pay, and relationships within the company were second to none.

    Cons

Huge company, so a lot of kissing up to try to advance. Also long hours and a lot of travel is to be expected... But it is a construction company so that's the norm.

    Advice to Management

Advance employees who are proven capable of doing the work, and who put in the hours. A culture of who can brown nose the most, and who you know compared to what you know is not appealing. Other than that keep it up!

I have been working at Kiewit Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good 401K match, good health benefits, plenty of PTO

    Cons

Expected long hours, move today or find another job ultimatums, corporate politics, good old boy system. Internal customers look down upon the Procurement (Kiewit Supply Network) as inexperienced and a hindrance to production. This company will treat you like garbage every moment they don't see an immediate use for your talent.

    Advice to Management

Get your hands dirty rather that compete for a corner office. Your people need you. It seems that there are 2 managers for every 5 employees. The middle layer is too thick and those in charge are disconnected, even live in a different city.

    Pros

When the weather is good, the hours are good. Great people to work with.

    Cons

Need to save every dime because when the weather is bad on the dirt work side of things. The paychecks are fairly small.

    Advice to Management

Try to help provide some room for advancement, not necessarily promotions but maybe more training for people wanting to operate more equipment.

I worked at Kiewit Corporation full-time

    Pros

Be cautious if relocating, Omaha is a great place to be but not much SAP work in the area. Is a wonderful construction company but don't let their deep pockets & resources fool you. Business is business here.

    Cons

Remember employment at will, they laid of higher paid IT both SAP & non SAP even though company still profitable. Did not matter that employees had been A rated, they believed lesser experience could carry on.

    Advice to Management

Awesome construction company, is a challenge to move into areas that are not your core competency.

    Pros

Great business structure, very effective productive culture; it allows you to learn the construction contracting business the text book way. Also a very profitable company that maintains professional ethics.

    Cons

Tough life style. Long hours and your desk moves to the job, not the other way around, so lots of moving is required. Tough to make a life outside of the company.

    Advice to Management

It would help if management were to continue developing and improving the balance between life and work. It seems there is recognition of the need, but more still needs to be done if people are going to stay with the company for the long run
