Reviews about "lots of opportunities"

Pros
It was a good opportunity to work on an interesting project and got to learn a lot of new aspects of engineering and construction. Most of the people I worked with were easy to get along with.
Cons
Worked long hours, my project was a 60 hour minimum. communication across divisions was very poor. Living in a "Man Camp" in North Dakota is something I hope to not experience again

Pros
Kiewit really is a fantastic company to work for, especially if you are a recent grad. There are so many learned my opportunities and lots of room to soar in your career. Kiewit has excellent development programs, a firm structure and intelligence in place for every aspect of project management, yet they humbly seek out advice from their employees regarding process improvement. I enjoyed every minute of working here and would recommend to anyone looking for a place where they can sink in roots and grow and learn. Kiewit is the kind of company who will be loyal to you for life if you are loyal to them. As an employee you have infinite access to professionals in your field.
Cons
A few things, they are a bit too proud of their benefit offering, which is by the way, pretty good, but they low ball salary as a result. It's a bit good-old boy, and not very diverse. Also, raises often don't follow promotions.

Pros
-Pay well compared to other companies - Well known name/brand -Learn a lot in a short amount of time
Cons
- If you aren’t a favorite (kiss up) then you are overlooked -The Job needs come before your career goals and personal needs which in some cases is ok, but it’s not when you keep pushing people around and none of the experience you are providing lines up with their goals - Hard work is not enough a lot of politics play a role in getting good opportunities - Speaking up for yourself and against management when they are wrong gets you black balled - they could care less about your goals and your previous background or degree — for example I am no longer working in my field that I graduated w/ and have experience in and without being asked if I minded - no training , everyone is too busy or can care less to train you— but if you mess up they will chew you out for it - more emphasis is on winning work and not sending people to the work, those spots are already filled in by the favorites who are already on another project so it’s easy to get pigeon holed into estimating which no one wants to do anyway - they value speed over quality when it comes to work

Kiewit is a great opportunity, but isn't for everyone
May 19, 2010 - in Toronto, ONRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Working for Kiewit, I have been exposed to many challenges and constant learning opportunities. - Kiewit has a family feel and you will likely make some lifelong friends. - I have had a lot of opportunities to travel and see other areas in North America. - Kiewit is not looking for 'rental employees'- they are looking for their future management. - Ultimately, if you are honest and work hard, you will be rewarded.
Cons
As many have said, it is a challenge to balance your life and work. I do feel, at least in Canada, that we are slowly improving on this front. Yes, I have lived in camps. Yes, I know what a 20 hour work day feels like. But I also know the satisfaction of looking a a huge project and knowing I helped make that happen.

The company has offices throughout the U.S. and Canada and there are lots of opportunities to expand your experience.
Cons
It's can be hard work and lots of hours. If you are truly passionate about construction, it's worthwhile.

Pros
Great people they pay very well lots of opportunity good benefits lots of travel relocation assistance overall a good company that has lots of opportunity to grow and pay very well. The work doesn't get boring or at least you'll be too busy and stressed to be bored
Cons
Expect long hours you'll have to eventually relocate or work in remote locations or do camp jobs poor work life balance management can be very fickle. They can change their mood fairly quickly and make last minute changes that can effect your work (better or for worse) lots of stress
- Current Employee★★★★★
Pros
Lots of real world experience in the engineering field and large opportunities to work with other disciplines. You get out what you put into it
Cons
Misleading name title, the internship was fully design based and no construction. Not as much on site activity as expected.
