I have been working at Kiewit Infrastructure West full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There is good communication between office staff (engineers, PM's, etc.) and operational staff (operators, laborers, etc.,). Unlike many firms where engineers dictate the tasks of operational execution, the people who are in the field are able to propose ideas for success they see in the everyday tasks and be heard and often put the improved procedures to use.

    Cons

A common complaint is the amount of work on both the professional side as well as the trade side that Kiewit employees work too many hours. While its certainly not a 9-5 job, the environment is good and pay is sufficient if you don't mind a longer work week. Can definitely be a con for someone whose main focus is a "work-life balance."

I have been working at Kiewit Infrastructure West full-time

    Pros

    - They are a big company the does some big projects that your proud to be apart of. - They are a great teaching company with lots of best practices to learn from. - They are big and financially strong enough to weather the downturns with out worrying about loosing you job.

    Cons

    - When bush come to shove they will go with just get r done. - They have a habit of promoting people with questionable morals and people who make the work environment not enjoyable. - Most of them do not know what work/life balance is or they have a very distorted view of it.

    Advice to Management

You need to do a better job getting your project managers, construction managers and superintends to live up the core values you preach (People, Integrity, Excellence & Stewardship).

I worked at Kiewit Infrastructure West full-time for less than a year

    Pros

HUGE, AWESOME PROJECTS, good money and great benefits. Craft people are hilarious and awesome people to be around for the most part. Largest owner of Caterpillar equipment. Purchasing agents are awesome. This company runs really, really well due to meticulous planning and over a century of refining their construction business practices and growing the company.

    Cons

Zero work life balance. Unfriendly management. Expectations of engineers not clearly laid out. Expect to work 11-12 hour days minimum (if estimating in the office, 10 hours per day minimum).

    Advice to Management

People are promoted for their technical skills and not their people skills(common sense says this is necessary for a technical industry though duh), seems as though few super high-on-the-totem-pole management personnel tend to have both types of skills. Work life balance training is needed company wide if retaining millennials is a goal. Solution to this problem is possible if overhead is increased, but competitors... will shatter that solution with undercutting. Perhaps new labor laws are needed for salary personnel in the construction industry. Wahhh.

I worked at Kiewit Infrastructure West

    Pros

Lots of room to grown and generally good support from your peers and managers. PKS really encourage personal and professional development.

    Cons

Terrible work-life balance. PKS EXPECTS the employees to work long hours (whatever to get things done). The company tradition is that you move to where the work is. They will pay for the move, but they cannot repair many broken relationships due to the move.

    Advice to Management

More flexibility in moving employees; encourage work-life balance.
