I worked at Kimberly-Clark (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits are good. Lots of friendly people.

    Cons

Hard to get another position with in the company, when dept is down sizing.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to what leaders are doing, not what they say they are doing. Losing a lot of very good people due to frustration.

I worked at Kimberly-Clark as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

This position provided opportunity for learning exciting new technologies and social media techniques.

    Cons

Was lead to believe there was potential to be hired as an employee when accepting the contract position. I was disappointed to find out that every community manager was contracted and had not been offered a position within the company.

    Advice to Management

The management needs to be more involved in overseeing the staff if there are continual problems with the leads.

    Pros

Good flexibility with work schedules. Opportunities for training and personal growth. Good performance management process and open opportunities process.

    Cons

Have been through a couple of periods of lay offs that have made the work environment more stressful and negative than it used to be. Haven't seen much in the way of streamlining of work and many people are overwhelmed with the work they've had to take on. Also there is an absolutely terrible performance review process in place that has created a lot of tension and competition among employees that didn't used to be there.

    Advice to Management

Fix the performance review process, it is a waste of time and creates a really bad work environment every year around that time. Keep trying to help the employees who have absorbed all of the work from the recent downsizing to get their work back in balance.

    Pros

3 words - Work Life Balance! Kimberly-Clark is an excellent place to work for great work life balance.
It is extremely flexible with office/face time as long as the work is getting done.

    Cons

Kimberly-Clark is a complex matrix organization that has too many people and layers for effective decision making that all have to be on the same page before a recommendation or decision will be pushed up through the layers.

    Advice to Management

The focus on short term results has been at the expense of long term equity building initiatives.

    Pros

great mix of staff - but this has changed drastically lately & morale is very low currently.

    Cons

as a global company we've been seduced into thinking that staff can be commoditized and treated as "heads" rather than "people" with more knowledge and experience than they're given credit for. We seem to be currently looking just for "cheaper" rather than "better value".

    Advice to Management

manage, direct, lead. be confident enough to make decisions and stand by them - even if they don't fit "the process". "the process" doesn't sell our products or actually get anything done. fix the company & the share price will follow (not the other way round). micromanagement and indecision are crippling the ability to get things done. sometimes you have to try and fail in order to suceed - but there are too many people are trying to take credit for anything that's looking sucessful - rather than simply being given clear responsibilities in their specific areas.
