    I have been working at Kimley-Horn full-time

    Pros

The resources, the retirement benefits, and the opportunities

    Cons

Virtually every "cons" section here mentions the poor work/life balance. Honestly, I have not seen it. It is true that this company will burn you out if you let them..if you are willing to work 70 hour weeks they will applaud you for it. However, in my experience, most people work around 45, which is on par with other engineering consultants out there. The average American works 47...working here will not end your life!

    Advice to Management

None- always be upfront about expectations, just like the firm is.

I have been working at Kimley-Horn full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people are among some of the brightest, hard working, and dedicated people I have met thus far in my career. One of the first things I learned when I was brought on was that the firm values relationships. I've seen a lot of growth during my time here, and everyone always points to the same thing: the people here were one of the reasons they chose KH over other offers.

Their compensation package as a whole is quite competitive as well, as others here on glassdoor have mentioned. Their salaries are fair and more importantly, make employees feel like they are getting paid at a respectable wage.

Employees are encouraged to take senior level people out to lunch, to get to know them, understand their practice and path to KH. There are multiple resources available to every individual to get active, meet people, and connect.

    Cons

Some people maybe confused by other reviews here so I want to clarify: Work loads really depend on your discipline, project deadlines, and personal work habits. I work on average 45 hours per week, and have almost always gotten out early on Fridays (the firm has a half day Friday policy year long).
There is an expectation from all employees to contribute to the firm and their work. This extra effort is embedded into the system which tracks your productivity and contributions to the firm. Long story short: it is not hard to meet your goals, or even exceed them. There are plenty of people I know who work hard, take frequent vacations, and achieve work life integration.

It really comes down to the individual. This is consulting, this is a firm which prioritizes their clients needs. An individual is aware of the efforts KH employees give to get the job done. Your efforts are always recognized in one way or another.

    Pros

Great people, culture, opportunities, benefits and compensation.

    Cons

I set my own pace and I am very intentional of balancing my private and professional life. I don't complain about work life balance: I do something about it! I set time to attend my kid's activities and I am present for the big family events. I work very hard, and I like it, but I also enjoy my family every day.

I have been working at Kimley-Horn full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people I work with our wonderful. There is a family feeling here. We work hard to serve our clients, our number one goal. We are rewarded very well with our bonus program, employee ownership, retirement benefits and health benefits.

The projects my team works on serve multiple offices. With the one profit center KH has, it is a seamless process. We have a lot of very cool and varied projects.

    Cons

In my time at KH I can honestly say that not every day has been a picnic! I can also say that 95% of the days have been great. I don't think you will find another engineering consulting firm you can say that about.

    Advice to Management

The LIFT program is great, the internal training classes Fundamentals of Consulting and Practice and Consultant Training are essential to our teams. Continue to keep them current and up-to-date!
