I worked at Kinder Morgan full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Decent Pay, the bottom rungs of the workforce is friendly and knowledgeable.

    Cons

Where to start.... runs so slim that spreadsheets are still used for many tasks that have much better and efficient options out there. Actually had to purchase own or scrounge for office supplies. Bureaucracy runs so rampant that it seems that the company would step over a dollar to pick up a dime if it shows a profit to shareholders. Management culture when dealing with employees is to default to not... trusting employees. Employees are responsible for travel expenses with a reimbursement from the company after completing an arduous and lengthy expense report. Replacement computers take weeks even if they are almost unusable and old (over 8 years old in my case.) Work/life balance can be an issue for some employees. Training is not a priority, it has been stated "we hire experience" by a member of upper management in reference to training. Company is not an industry leader in anything that isn't compliance driven like some of the companies that they acquired (don't go above and beyond what is required of them, yet they expect their employees to). Poor morale across numerous departments.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees as much as you do your shareholders. Realize there is a huge hidden cost in poor morale and antiquated software and systems.

I have been working at Kinder Morgan full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some good people working for the company

    Cons

Poor work culture and atmosphere which starts with management. Inappropriate relationships at work from management. Work life balance is not great. Underpaid for what is expected if in operations compared to industry standard. Management find ways to constantly not follow ur policies. Management finds ways to constantly try to punish employees. Excessive turnover. Terrible bonus structure.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the people that make the terminal run in Galena Park. You have know right to walk around with your nose in the air most management couldn’t step in and run anything if the field and controllers went on strike. Figure out what is actually going on in the control room and what it take to do the job on a daily basis. Hold customers accountable so that the job can be done with consistency. Learn to implement... HR policies and not make up rules as you see fit. I could go on and on you have a terrible work culture and most of the people that work in operations hate the job and your turnover will be constant like it have been this is why you are understaffed and your controllers workload is thru the roof like the year end assessment showed.

I have been working at Kinder Morgan full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - 9/80 - Good teammates to work with

    Cons

    - Micromanagement - no work life balance - expects everything to be perfect and scrutinizes mistakes - thrives on a chaos environment - no planning and management skills - lack of advancement for outstanding performers - Make you come in on your holidays/Approved PTO "in case there are questions" and then tell you "to look busy", wasting your time when you can be home with your family.

    Advice to Management

Look into the people running the department and get rid of them. No reason to have these type of people ruin a good place to work. They make the work environment stressful for no particular reason just for their personal satisfaction Has lost the culture that it had

    Pros

There are some good co-workers dealing with the same thing you are. You learn how to multi-task and work through challenging issues. You have a job.

    Cons

Little to no room for advancement unless you are part of the good old boy culture (heavy favoritism). The technology is very old you work with and new technology is years away from being implemented. Extreme micromanagement, no trust for employees, and opinions are not valued. Management rules with fear and intimidation. No respect for employee personal life (no work life balance). Few perks, non-competitive... compensation or benefits. Very out of date corporate culture.

I have been working at Kinder Morgan for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good work/life balance for most positions- very dependent on your Business Unit.

    Cons

Company runs lean...thus you can forego any hopes for the use of new technology for back office support, as well as any on-site employee wellness perks you may see at its competitors.

I worked at Kinder Morgan full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Plenty of overtime. The benefits, 401k and pension is nice if you can make there any length of time

    Cons

Work life balance, not good. Management doesn't care about the work force of the company. Operators a forced to run unsafe equipment and maintenance guys can't get the parts to do there job correctly. Very low moral and back stabbing seems to be encouraged. Supervisors will lye and place blame on another to make there selves look good. Company procedures are followed when it benefits the employee liked the most.... Definitely a buddy system promotion process. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BRANCH.
