I have been working at Kindred Healthcare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Front line staff is fantastic. Hands down best group of social workers, aides, nurses, chaplains and volunteer professionals I’ve ever worked with. We take care of each other like a family.

    Cons

Yelling, slamming doors, name-calling, unnecessary and unkind comments made to staff during meetings. Constant inter-office gossip in regards to employees’ personal matters including health conditions, finances and relationships. ED and MCP are ineffective and seem to exist only to make themselves feel more powerful by belittling other staff members. Toxic and hostile work environment. Unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.

    Advice to Management

Please listen to your employees when we tell you about our concerns. Life isn’t fair, every job is hard, people aren’t perfect, I get it. That being said, it takes a great deal of effort on our part to manage the hateful attitude from office staff and provide excellent care to our patients and their families. We try (and we succeed) because we truly care about the people we serve and have chosen careers in hospice for a reason. Our patients get the best care because we are committed to our profession. However, with the job we do it can be tough to balance career, family and self-care under the best of circumstances. Please help us by finding a way to resist the abuse we endure from our “management “ staff so we can continue to do what we love without crumbling under the negativity directed at us on a daily basis. You have been aware of this for YEARS, and nothing has changed.

    Pros

    Getting to know the residents

    Cons

EVERYTHING!! This place is one of the worst places I have ever worked. I would advise anyone who was looking at getting a job here to TURN AROUND!!! The staff does not care about patients and management does not listen to you. You try to help the patients and its impossible. Don't lose your license over this place. The pay is low as well.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to the nurses.

There are no pros at this job. No Pros with this company.

    Cons

    Poor salary.
They operate on a 'lean' budget meaning the hospital is always short staffed.

I have been working at Kindred Healthcare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The coworkers are fantastic and I love working with the residents and their families. Floor nurses are are very helpful and want each other to succeed

    Cons

There is no communication between the higher ups. None of them know. what’s going on on the floors. They will tell you one thing and immediately turn around and do the opposite. They aren’t willing to have admission nurses, everyone just has to be a jack of all trades. The staffing ratios are extremely unsafe and make it near impossible to get everything done during your shift

    Advice to Management

There needs to be better communication, maybe a communication board or letter in the administrations boxes. They need to be sure of what they are saying is true before telling the staff the wrong thing

I have been working at Kindred Healthcare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This is a great long term acute care hospital where patients are with us for more than a week depending on how sick they are. We are basically an overflow from ICU/DOU/CCU at an acute hospital like Pomona Valley Medical Center or San Antonio Regional Hospital. We do continued care for what they were admitted for at the acute hospital. We are a family and provide great teamwork for each other, especially on unit 2.

    Cons

There is a High turnover rate due to the amount of work for a nurse & not enough pay, but it is a great place to learn and see everything.

    Advice to Management

There should be some more assistance on the floor with charge nurses & house supervisors instead of doing paperwork all day and not assisting staff members or patients on the floor when they’re on the unit.

I have been working at Kindred Healthcare full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Love the employees as we work together and as a team. Also like the patient population as it is very challenging and I learned so much. My manager was also great and stood behind employees

    Cons

Staffing is off and the staff turn over rate is really high for nursing. High patient to nurse ratio. Census is also unstable.

    Advice to Management

Treat your nurses better and appreciate them. Definitely need nursing education classes. Work with nurses on schedule and improve nurse to patient ratios also CNA to patient ratios to improve overall patient satisfaction and lower patient incidence.

I worked at Kindred Healthcare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, loved the patients. Good co-workers

    Cons

The managers knew less than the nurses. None of them were experienced and they were immature and very catty. Made it hard to work with people that were supposed to train me and didn't know anything.

    Advice to Management

Get training before you attempt to train people. Leave your personal feelings at the door. Become professionals.
