I have been working at Kindred Healthcare full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Decent pay, good work schedule

    Cons

Always short staffed, no employee appreciation, bonuses or even a pat on the back. Lousy health insurance.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate employees to stop having a huge turn around. Share some of the bonuses that management makes since employees are the ones keeping the company in Forbes. Offer better benefits. I was told by United Health that kindred chose the worst plan for its employees because its cheaper for Kindred. Shows you don't care when you are in the health profession.

I worked at Kindred Healthcare full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Many wonderful co-workers. There was some flexibility.

    Cons

Following the acquisition of RehabCare, bonus structure was restructured regularly. Senior Leadership in finance who had no clinical experience was given a key role in Operations. This person was abusive and encouraged like-minded individuals to behave the same. The expectation was to work 14+ hr days and weekends when needed for salaried positions. This same person was involved with TA operations and regularly commented on how "anyone could be a recruiter." HR was not helpful.

    Advice to Management

Initiate programs that will foster a healthy work environment.

I worked at Kindred Healthcare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The only things I can list as Pros for this company were caring for our patients and their families, and the absolutely amazing staff I worked with day in and day out.

    Cons

There was absolutely no communication between upper management and the personnel who worked with the patient and their families. Employees are expected to do as they are told and not to ask questions. Even if an employee is licensed, and unethical requests are made, they are told to follow through or shown the door. There is blatant prejudice and profiling done. There is a hostile work environment and patient care is not the priority. The almighty dollar is all that matters.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are your most valuable commodity and yet they are treated as if they have no value and nothing to contribute. Listen to your employees and offer praise for a job well done instead of trying to find fault with them and a way to write them up or place them under corrective action plans.

    Pros

Lengthy and proper orientation.Company adding new tools weekly.

    Cons

Corporate top heavy and only care about the numbers. Does not care about field staff. Pay is towards the lower scale.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to see the impact nurses make with their patients and the dedication and hard work that goes along with it.

I have been working at Kindred Healthcare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Love the resident, still there because of them. The nurse on the back chart of my hall GREAT and so helpful.

    Cons

Unorganized, management does nothing about things that should be address, more worried about what color scrubs the nurses are wearing than patient care. Nurses and other staff get away with not performing daily duties. Staff say what they will not do. Some on management team UNPROFESSIONAL and needs to learn how to speak to their staff.

    Advice to Management

When staff states what is not being done for a resident that can cause harm address the issue. Don't wait until family or responsible party becomes upset and want a meeting to come and hound the nurse that brought the issue to your attention. Show your staff (the ones that actually do their job) that you appreciated them. Let them know that they matter and a vital part of the time. Don't just approach them when you need them to fix an issue that some else caused and not tell them thank you. That's what makes good staff find a new workplace to call home.

I have been working at Kindred Healthcare (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Yes there may be some perks if you kiss up to management.

    Cons

Hippa rules broken daily by managers and employees. Management favoritism and carefully prepared spitefulness toward those who don't kiss up to them.... and they keep getting away with it. Lastly it's a real slave Factory with no chance for a raise.
I don't want to say it but it's the truth and the truth must be known.

    Advice to Management

Fire all management and higher New Management who own morals, Dignity & Respect for that's what the patients and employees deserve for their dedication to this company

I have been working at Kindred Healthcare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Staff is friendly and willing to help when they can.

    Cons

Horrible Upper Management that are not true to their word. Benefits are horrible. Medical benefits are extremely high with high deductibles that you can most likely never meet. No 401k match. Constant Micromanagement. Kindred CBO office in Houston is in a very old hospital. Building is full of cochroaches and pest. Building rations the air conditioning. The elevators never seen to work. There are constant electrical issues in the building and we have had 2 gas leaks so far and expected to work through all the building issues with loss of pay. Management doesn't care about the employees are only there to get a check. Horrible place to work

    Advice to Management

Simply, treat your employees as you would like to be treated.

I worked at Kindred Healthcare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Kindred lobbied Congress, US House of Reps, Ombudsman to White House, and CMS $6 Million in 2009 for Affordable Care Act language on employment and legal issues according to SEC Watchdog reports.

    Cons

Texas Workforce Solutions unemployment works heavily with Kindred posting bogus PT/OT/ST fraudulent jobs as ADP monthly job reports.

    Advice to Management

God has a special place for you.
