I worked at Kindred Healthcare full-time

    Pros

Five word miinimum--pros absolutely nothing!! Sad to say.

    Cons

Hired quickly. Quick to find out, that all your training is self driven. No one there is willing to take any quality time to teach you appropriately. The book that you use has several other girls names on it. The sad part of it is they are no longer there!! That's a warning flag!! Work load is heavy with no support staff. No one there to assist you at all. A total drowning experience. Salary no overtime. Don't expect to get out of there on time. Don't waste your time. It's obvious why they are always hiring. No sign on bonus is worth that experience.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget that the patients are the only reason you're in business. You need staff that cares. It is not a machine line. The finished product is health and returning home. AdMinistration should be more careful about their negative comments about patients and staff. Definitely not a professional working atmosphere. I pray that my family , friends never end up in a facility that is so uncaring and cold. I hope this review saves someone from taking on a bad experience.

I have been working at Kindred Healthcare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Currently there are none while working as a nurse at Kindred Denver and Aurora

    Cons

understaffing of nursing, outdated equipment, not enough teleboxes, what nurses are paid is ten to fifteen percent less than any other hospital in the Denver metro area

    Advice to Management

Rather than worrying about the bottom line, Marc Lemon should be concerned that on almost a weekly basis another good nurse quits to go work at another hospital where they are treated as professionals and paid fairly. Mr. Lemon only concerned with filling beds with NO concern for patient safety-- after all "that is how they did it in Tucson" is all we ever hear from him MARC LEMON MUST BE FIRED BEFORE HE RUNS THIS MARKET INTO THE GROUND

I have been working at Kindred Healthcare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They are so desperate for employees, they will hire "anybody"

    Cons

Word to the wise: as an RN you will often work the day shift with -NO CNA TO HELP YOU- you will have a minimum of 4 patients and you will do everything from transporting them to and from dialysis, bathing, cleaning, making runs to the cafeteria for coffee for your patient, taking out laundry and trash out of the rooms. This is all in addition to your real nursing duties. If you try talking to mgt about staffing issues they will gladly listen but the answer will always be the same "this is the way it here" suck it up . They have many highly demanding and morbidly obese pts, that you will have to turn and clean by yourself because there is no help. Almost half the staff is agency nurses and the bad reputation of this Kindred is getting around many agency nurses choose not to come back. They make RN's work without a CNA to save money on the budget, this only serve to diminish patient care and burn out the few nurses that are left.

    Advice to Management

Please quit making us work without a CNA, staff us properly, this includes day and night shift plus weekends. Better staffing means better patient care. Provide us with working equipments and coffee makers on each unit for patients.

I have been working at Kindred Healthcare full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Not many these days, have not seen a pro in over a year.

    Cons

Downsizing is a way to put it. Cut more than 75% of our hospice staff due to a dropping census no possible way to take pto with no back up staff. Work every day to cover the visits needed for kindred at home

    Advice to Management

I have worked for this particular site in kerrville for 11 years i have went through multiple acquisitions but no change has been harder than with kindred at home we only have 2 hospice aides and 3 register nurses to cover the work needed ,no raise during the turmoil as in almost 2 years, and hard to take a day off with no other co worker to fill in
