More Pros and Cons

  1. "Grocery foreman"

I have been working at King Soopers full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good quality, inexpensive insurance after one year of PT service or after 90 days with FT.

    Cons

Management is under tremendous pressure to achieve corporate goals. A few rockstars seem to hold the stores together. The union seems to protect slackers mostly because mgmt doesn't have the time to perform timely discipline.

    Advice to Management

At store level...even though you are handling an incredible workload, please know that your rockstars would really appreciate an occasional thank you as they are working just as hard as you are and are earning less. Please progress with discipline and get rid of the dead weight.

I have been working at King Soopers part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent "reward" benefits such as discount tickets and care buying assistance, also 10% off anything you purchase that is a Kroger brand.

    Cons

Not enough hours. Getting a higher paid position also takes too long. Even IF: you have a great deal of experience, you are articulate, you are more capable than other employees, and you've proven your worth. Bigger opportunities exist, but only if you're willing to relocate to any store they're able to throw at you.

    Advice to Management

I understand honoring the "seniority" system but please acknowledge and reward the employees that go out of the way to make things easier. I know I personally go out of my way to do extra deep cleaning and facing when working front end, and so do most of my co-workers. Kind words or small gestures would mean a great deal!

    Cons

The schedule is pretty crappy untill you establish more hours and no longer at the bottom when it comes to seniority

I worked at King Soopers part-time

    Pros

10% employee discount, caring and patient supervisors, kind coworkers, very helpful people, gives 20+ hours per week guaranteed, union workplace

    Cons

Scheduling not always flexible, training could be improved, customers can be annoying, but mostly a good place to work, especially for a first job

I worked at King Soopers full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Quick promotions for people who work hard, Fast paced environment, one learns a lot about oneself while dealing with the public, pays well when you get into management.

    Cons

As you progress into higher management roles one begins to realize that the company is struggling to foster a culture of inspiration and passion. They are very focused on micromanaging day-to-day routines. Working nights and weekends is not for some.

    Advice to Management

Let people innovate. The current direction you are going is one that stifles creativity and ultimately reduces any passion for the business.
