I worked at King's Seafood full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They really do promote from within. I was given many opportunities to grow.

    Cons

They have too high of a turnover for managers. Because of this, general managers, assistant general managers and senior managers are constantly being transferred which makes it impossible to build stability in the restaurants. Upper management puts a great deal of pressure on the restaurants to keep their labor down and if you are unlucky enough to be one of the slower restaurants, they expect you to cut staff hours, which doesn't usually go over well with the staff.

    Advice to Management

Really look at who you are hiring. The company's standards are precise and the recruiter should be looking for people that are going to not only follow those standards but be able to handle the pressure of upper management if their numbers aren't good enough.

    I worked at King's Seafood full-time

    Pros

They have been around for over 30 years and still care about the people side of the business.

    Cons

Although they try to operate fairly they can be overly focused on the fine dining side of the company with much less attention to the other concepts.

    I worked at King's Seafood part-time

    Pros

The money is great during the holidays.

    Cons

    Management doesn't care about you.
You never feel safe at work, any wrong doing can be grounds for getting fired.
Management is known for being extremely condescending towards employees.
Won't offer health benefits for people working full time unless they have been with the company for a year or longer.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the people that work for you, it can go a long way.

I worked at King's Seafood part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Cool co-workers. Good location (Gaslamp) so you can do stuff after work. Easy to get into management if that's your thing.

    Cons

So many...most incompetent managers I've ever had to deal with. Tip out system is beyond any other place I've worked at. Kitchen can't handle it if it gets busy.

    Advice to Management

Get a clue. Your incompetence doesn't keep good staff.

I have been working at King's Seafood full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Some of the food is good. Fresh seafood is available. Nice decor and upbeat music. Co workers are good hearted (bussers servers bartenders wine stewards)

    Cons

You pay $70/month for employee parking. You tipout an average of 20% of your SALES regardless of how much you make/don't make in tips: no exceptions.
    Management is rude and condescending.
There is no cleaning crew. Employees must sweep, mop and clean after shift.
It takes forever to leave after you are done with your shift bc you have to clean, get your paperwork signed, 3 times (good luck finding someone on the floor that can do that, especially when it is still busy), then you spend more time standing in line to finalize your tipout procedure. And when you are done, good luck walking out with cash and walking a few blocks to your car without getting mugged.
Mgmt does not care for anyone other than supervisors and managers.
    No 401k or company matching.
2 table sections for servers. Bussers only bread tables and turn tables, everything else servers must do. Was told sections will increase when yelp reviews get better.
No corkage fees so guests take advantage and bring cases of wine and don't tip on servicing those bottles.
No auto gratuities, EVER, unless it's a private party done through contract.
Some servers are hired with NO experience.

By the way, server are supposed to get 4 table sections but they say it won't change from 2 tp 4 until "yelp reviews go up to 4.5 star".... really???? Yeah, really

    Advice to Management

Try to review your policies in order to retain good employees.

I have been working at King's Seafood part-time

    Pros

Money is great, coworkers are wonderful, clientele is mostly business people at the convention center, the convention center makes it busy much of the time

    Cons

Restaurant is dead for much of December and January, revolving door of management due to long hours and low compensation, constantly low on necessary supplies such as silverware, plates, glasses, etc

    Advice to Management

Pay the entry level management more so that leaving for a serving job becomes a less attractive option. Also, keep a par stock of supplies in the back so that you aren't blindsided by shortages of several supplies every month. Upper management: Your managers at this restaurant are wonderful. There just needs to be more of them to make this place work without burning them out constantly.
