If you want to work with great people

      Feb 28, 2018 - Anonymous Employee

      Pros

The people - Lots of really smart and super friendly people. Great work life balance. Its strongly encouraged to get your work done in a 8hr workday and then turn off. Great senior leadership. Very accessible. Many of them have been there for 10+ years and are still very passionate. Great culture in general.

      Cons

Some politics as expected from a company of this size.

      A good place to work

      Pros

King takes great care recruiting nice and competent people and it is a really makes things easier when you are surrounded by smart and pleasant people. Their data stack is quite robust and it is one of the few European companies that can allow you to work on real big data projects. I would recommend it without doubt for early to mid career professionals and you will work on cool projects surrounded by nice and smart people. Work life balance is also great, there is a lot of emphasis on focusing on delivery and people/team happiness.

      Cons

At some point, it might become challenging to progress further. Promotions only happen once a year (officially) and if you aren't promoted (the reason can sometimes be unclear) you have to wait one more year while potentially still doing a good job well above your official job description (and pay check). It is hard to push new ambitious ideas to life as you have to convince several layers of managers, which generally kills most project ideas.

Does not stack up to other Tech companies

Oct 9, 2020 - Anonymous Employee in London, England, England

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good benefits and very supportive of flexible work life balance Makes effort to get feedback from employees Regular communication from CEO

      Cons

Don't expect good technology and development methodologies here. Engineering standards are sub-par. People care more about delivering something quickly and not really ensuring that it is of high quality. Engineering leaders aren't necessarily tech visionaries nor former strong contributors in the craft but that seems to be true for other crafts as well. Regular employee satisfaction surveys are taken but no real changes or actions are actually put in place. Manager with consistently low ratings quarter after quarter is still in place after almost two years resulting in a lot of churn in the team.

      Pros

Great culture, equal opportunities, great work-life balance, good work atmosphere

      Cons

Senior leadership never changes, despite not being able to launch a new game for years. It is an equal opportunity employer except for senior leaders who are all white males.

Not exciting but still a great company; slow and stable

Dec 24, 2019 - Sales in London, England, England

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      • Annual company offsite (Kingfomarket) is epic • Friday Drinks, Gaming Area, Balcony, Office Gym, Breakfast, Snacks are great • Extra holiday and company benefits very good • Highly competent colleagues (mostly) • Competitive Salary (in my business area) • Great work life balance • Young and vibrant employee base meaning it's often quite fun

      Cons

      • Zero innovation, King is the definition of an "optimisation" business • Declining user base, declined 50% (250M) since I joined. So making more money from a shrinking pool of users using smart methods, optimisations and Ads • Slowly cutting back on the perks and heavily reduced investments into new IP, new games and any kind of innovation, it's slowly becoming more corporate and less fun every day (inevitable) • CEO (Riccardo) finally left which is very sad although also inevitable. Humam is a good operator and does his best, but it'll never be the same • Mostly saturated for progression but very team dependent (some are very good, some suck)

      Chaotic roadmap constantly changing

Jul 1, 2020 - Game Developer in London, England, England
      Recommend

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Strong work life balance, nice office with a reasonable amount of social activity.

      Cons

Weak job prospects (no merit based promoting, only two games in London), little to no transparency leading to sudden changes, uninspired work on live titles, unclear roadmap.
