I have been working at Kingfisher full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The International retail experience and worldwide travel.
The opportunity to visit customers across Europe to really understand their needs.
My OSC peers are hard working, pragmatic and diligent.

    Cons

Pay inequality; my husband is less experienced and earns considerably more..... an extra £18k!!!!
Expenses culture, we pay for everything and claim back, the system we use is time consuming and payments are often delayed
The OpCos don't understand the process and no one is enforcing it from up above, this quite frankly leads to day to day squabbling that is childish and prevents everyone from delivering.

    Advice to Management

Take time to understand the process and workload. Recently I've been working 14 hours a day, 6 days a week.
Pay for hotels in advance and/or sort out corporate cards - the current system puts extreme financial pressure on the team..... not all of us have £5k credit cards and even those that do often receive expenses back late and incur charges!

I worked at Kingfisher full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of new technologies. Fast paced. Main HQ building is a nice setting. People in other teams generally helpful.

    Cons

Too much pressure. Unrealistic deadlines. Most people are under stress. Not given enough time to put in good quality solutions. Little time to test before going live. Not given access to systems to upgrade etc. Lots of MI's

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Manage OK but need to work more as a team.

    Pros

Decent offices. Free air, chairs, toilet paper etc. Good view from the window. Close to tube for a fast getaway

    Cons

Shambolic, compartmentalised working practices. Work long hours obviously equals quality of output. Breathtaking lack of technical skills in some staff. Oblivious to more advanced and efficient ways of working.

    Advice to Management

Quality not quantity. Spending more time doing boring, time consuming and inefficient things is not beneficial, although it does mean the minions are in the office late. Now where did I put that diary for the 18:30 meeting...?

I have been working at Kingfisher full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Programme of Transformation across the whole organisation
    Tons of investment
    Really capable people
    Can do attitude
    Rebranding of OpCos
    Retail leader

    Cons

    Transformation is almost too fast
    Culture playing catch-up
    Very political in some spheres
Feels structurally immature in some places and could be slicker
    Large number of contractors
Culture of homeworking only starting to be adopted

    Advice to Management

Keep eye on transformation- direction is great but pace means some (smaller) things are being missed

I worked at Kingfisher full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The majority of the people are great. A nice building to work in at Southampton. Free Parking.

    Cons

Management lack direction, not willing to mentor staff, not willing to support staff through difficult times, the business varies between the various OpCo's, wanting One Kingfisher but this is a deluded vision.

    Advice to Management

Mentor Staff, Audit existing staffs skillsets, look after staff through personal problems

    Pros

International, diversity, this company used to care people, treasure hard working staffs, clear directions, clear objectives, staffs feel like moving forward with company, but no more now.

    Cons

Top management not willing to take responsibilities.
Big ambition, but company is a mess, conflicts between departments.
Do not accept different voices. Directors just sit and do nothing.
    Poor management on contract review.

    Advice to Management

    Change the lead first.
