    Pros

A good sized institution where you can see both familiar and new faculty, staff, and student faces.

No room to move up, it is also deep in Brooklyn which can either be a negative or a positive.

    Advice to Management

College Assistant's do much more work than most Non-teaching adjuncts for a fraction of the price.

I have been working at Kingsborough Community College full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Not very busy or crowded with staff and students

    Cons

Harsh politics - a hostile environment in some departments. Location - students have to travel 2 hours plus to an isolated campus - location is not fair and attributes to failure and low enrollment (in comparison to other CUNY schools) High turnover in administration; worried about the current administration. Too many lawsuits because the administration tries to sweep everything under rug Consistently... featured in the NYPost Resistance to change - even with diverse leadership; they uphold the status quo. No effective code of conduct - too many loose cannons and bullies Major generation gap among faculty and staff - people of retirement age refuse to leave. I am not going to blame those who have worked there for over 40 years. Those in their 2nd or 3rd careers are resistant to innovation and change because Kingsborough has become their retirement career.

    Advice to Management

Move the campus! Please offer retirement packages and/ or buyouts! There are too many committees (with the same people serving most important committees) and we do not have a good sense of direction.

I worked at Kingsborough Community College full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Excellent City of New York employee benefits. "Real" campus, with grounds, by the ocean. Provides excellent opportunities for first generation college students.

    Cons

Despite constantly changing presidents,. many of the faculty and professional staff have been there for 30, 40 or even 50 years! Old ideas, resistant to change, firmly entrenched in the "buddy" system. Poor quality of many of the facilities, classrooms and offices.

    Advice to Management

The CUNY system and the City of New York provide excellent retirement options. When it is time for someone to retire, encourage it. Make room for younger, ambitious staff members to advance.
