    Pros

Its a great company with great customers

    Cons

    Hassle work environment.
You can't see your work schedule unless you're working in the store. I was sick and they gave me a "No Show" mark on my attendance.
For me personally, i'm always covering for that one employee that never wants to work, and that's quite annoying.

I have been working at Kirkland's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Ever changing merchandise, relatively flexible scheduling to the needs of the business, friendly people, customer service oriented. Fast paced, and always something to do.

    Cons

Technology and reports are behind the times. They are slow to update and adapt to changes. They want to compete with other retailers but do it in the cheapest and slackest way possible. The software is usually slow and malfunctioning, and while they have "rules" when it comes to policies dealing with customers - they don't enforce them and the customers then walk right over the employees and regulations.

    Advice to Management

Kirkland's is a fun place to work and I enjoy my time here, though i would never be able to live solely off of this salary - so for me it's a hobby as my husband makes most of the money for us. The merchandise is decent, but improving quality could drive a higher dollar ticket and patron.

    I worked at Kirkland's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Flexible hours
    -Nice co-workers
-Lots of food (used to bring in free food/coffee for employees but that stopped)
-Resume builder because you'll have to wear many hats

    Cons

    -Uncompetitive pay
-Hierarchy is everything and low level opinion is either ignored or good ideas are stolen
-Stagnation and no place for growth
-Promotions don't always come with increases (if they do it's very little more)
-Marketing strategy is dictated by the Merchandise Department
    -Disorganized

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent with your employees. Listen and find ways to develop your employees. Allow your creatives in Marketing to have a voice.

I have been working at Kirkland's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They offer good benefits to full time employees. With the company expanding as quickly as they are, there is room for advancement.

    Cons

Access to training and mentorship is not readily available. Typical retail store scheduling, finding a work life balance will be difficult.

    Advice to Management

Surround yourself with a strong team. This way your store can run smoothly when your not in the building. Prepare yourself to do a lot of learning on your own, if not in a SM position.

    I worked at Kirkland's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Store Manager is amazing. She goes out of her way to make sure you are thanked for your work. She is kind and patient and really helped me come out of my shell. She is the most hard working manager I have ever had the pleasure of working with.

    Cons

There are ladies in that store who stand around and "gossip" when the store manager is out. It is horrible the way they are talking.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the "mean girls" they will bring that store down. For a company whose value is a "caring culture" they are not showing it with those girls still employed and 1 of them was just rehired.
