    I worked at Kirkland's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Flexible hours
    -Nice co-workers
-Lots of food (used to bring in free food/coffee for employees but that stopped)
-Resume builder because you'll have to wear many hats

    Cons

    -Uncompetitive pay
-Hierarchy is everything and low level opinion is either ignored or good ideas are stolen
-Stagnation and no place for growth
-Promotions don't always come with increases (if they do it's very little more)
-Marketing strategy is dictated by the Merchandise Department
    -Disorganized

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent with your employees. Listen and find ways to develop your employees. Allow your creatives in Marketing to have a voice.

I worked at Kirkland's (More than a year)

    Pros

The merchandise was tasteful. Pre printed signs were a bonus. Hours are very flexiable.

    Cons

Lifting heavy furniture, while negotiating a ladder in an overcrowded warehouse was challenging.

    Advice to Management

Please trust your employee, don't sit for hours reviewing security camera's to see what you did, so you could pick your actions apart. Please quit being argumentative. Work, when you are part of the labor force, don't sit on the phone for HOURS. Train, when training is required. Credit cards should be a tool to help the customer, not a guillotine held over your head if you did not persuade a customer into opening a 27% a year Wells Fargo Account. $100 a month bonus is a joke. Manager was very accommodating to time off, so much so, he forgot to change the schedule, leaving the shift scrambling to fill the spot.

    I worked at Kirkland's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great CEO
Potential to be a great competitor in the industry if they can get aligned in their strategic planning... trusting each other and backing each other
Making some great buys lately - you can see in the new product in stores

    Cons

    Knee-jerk decisions made constantly
    High stress environment
No respect of the voice of experts
    Very low pay
No respect of family/work life balance. I was expected to be available at all hours of the day (and night) no matter what.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to when things started going downhill.
10+ people leaving a department is a BIG sign.
A department is a reflection of it's leadership.
You had some INCREDIBLE talent that got away... Have open conversations with your people. Creating a collaborative, positive environment will only make employees work harder.

    I worked at Kirkland's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -national brand recognition on resume
    -close knit team environment

    Cons

-polite to your face, but coworkers quick to talk about you behind your back

-all of merchandising department does majority category businesses with one vendor, who happens to be in direct relations to Senior management; unheard of in other major retailers but because of the familial environment it somehow makes it okay

-cliqueish environment; if you don't sit with the cool girls you won't go anywhere in your career

-no room for promotions or upward advancement; need to learn to train employees better; only way to get promoted is for someone to leave the company or die since buyers have been there 5-10 years

-no work/ life balance; expect to get your job done and other people's too and then some

-company is a sinking ship; every retailer is doing the same thing and no product differentiation

-don't care about your position; you are a cog in the wheel of grand scheme of things-they will get rid of you in a heartbeat and find any excuse to let you go

    Advice to Management

Hire real leaders that know how to manage their team better and not "play favorites" to staff that kiss-up at opportune times
