    Advice to Management

Management can be too slow to act on small things, and too quick to act on big things.

    I worked at Kitchell full-time

    Pros

    Great benefits and great projects.

    Cons

Below average management. Plenty of vague training that is not helpful to your responsibilities. Your are left to sink or swim.

    Pros

Provides excellent training, which propels project team success. There are also many opportunities to move up in the company if the proper motivation and drive are present. Overall, great company to work for!

    Cons

In order to showcase your talents you have to almost demand the opportunity to do so. If you got what takes to lead, get in there and lead or you won't be noticed.

    Advice to Management

Listen to what your employees are saying. There is a smarter new workforce coming, which will replace the old way of thinking and create a new, awesome paradigm. Be aware, agile, and form to the "new", it is going to an awesome ride.

I have been working at Kitchell full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Responsibility is given in appropriate doses, great team of talented professionals.

    Cons

Pay is very low for industry standards, local leadership plays favorites, no regard for family and work/life balance, values are just a list to post on the website, safety program isn't engrained into senior most employees and nothing is done about it, work with great clients - but destroy relationships in order to save a buck, positions are not filled from internal talent pool, no interest in self perform work.

    Advice to Management

Restart self-perform, listen to your people

I have been working at Kitchell full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Got to work directly with owners
Got to see projects all the way through and gain full project experience
Employee owned company, but I wasn't there long enough to get a stake in it.
Got taken out to lunch by project managers every once in a while.

    Cons

Worked mostly on the jobsite by myself
Supposedly the Norcal office culture is different than the SoCal one
During my time there, there was some internal issues with upper management, It has since been resolved
They couldn't find the courage to let go of a person we all knew wasn't doing his job

    Advice to Management

Culture is very important to people; make sure people know when they do a good job
Don't be lazy with yearly reviews

I have been working at Kitchell full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Benefits, Profit-Sharing, Nice people, Okay work-life balance

    Cons

They operate at a 9-5 old school pace. They do not have a good training program, nor do they mentor you into a higher position. They don't have a plan for you when you start out, you just work and work until someone else falls off and you MAY get promoted. However, they don't tell you or assure you, so good luck wondering all day.

Even if you have the skills to be challenged, they won't challenge you. It is very hard to excel in a place that does not give you any guidance or challenges to face.

I came from an extremely awesome company that gave me training and direction for advancement. They informed me of where I was and where I could be, as well as when. I had tasks and obstacles to overcome before I would get to think about a promotion, and I was aware of those. Working for Kitchell I am stuck in a 9-5 maybe you will, maybe you won't situation. Since I took this position with Kitchell, it has been nothing but a regret because I know I'm wasting my time.

Lastly, they leave people out of events and have a very cliquey environment. They don't give you a welcome, that's for sure. It's more of a "we don't give a sh*t about who you are or where you came from."

    Advice to Management

Get a better training program. All of the older people need to understand there is a different generation coming up that will need to hold Kitchell's legacy, however they can't do that while being treating like dog sh*t. There is too much opportunity for growth other places and you are wasting good talent.

I worked at Kitchell full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Organized, efficient. Generally enjoyable and friendly environment. Subcontractor "list" is high quality. Open to new thoughts, processes. Promote continued education, where applicable.

    Cons

Slow to promote. A lot of time commitment. High performance expectations, sometimes unrealistic expectations. No bonus plan, in my experience, though may exist in other positions.

    Advice to Management

    Pay seems a bit low.
