I worked at Kitsap Mental Health Services part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Clients are interesting. Days are busy and go fast.

    Cons

If you want to have a conversation with a sane person, talk to a client.

    Advice to Management

Hire and promote adults. Working there is like being in a jr. high lunchroom.

I have been working at Kitsap Mental Health Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I love working with the clients that come in for help! The company used to really care about their employees but that has changed in the last 6 months.

    Cons

You are overworked, underpaid, underappreciated, given orders and never asked.

    Advice to Management

Thank about your employees before you dump loads of work on them without giving them any sort of increase or even a thank you!

I have been working at Kitsap Mental Health Services full-time

    Pros

There are a lot of wonderful people working here, many who have a wealth of knowledge and expertise and who truly care about the clients and each others. Team members really work together and help each other. The agency still tries to do nice things for their employees even though they've had to drastically cut back due to financial problems. There used to be a lot of other "pros", but in the past couple of years, the corporate culture has done a 180 and those pros no longer exist.

    Cons

The company culture has become secretive and controlling and has implemented a rigid top-down management style. Major decisions are made in a vacuum without seeking the advice of other departments and people lower on the food chain who need to be consulted. Silos exist which prohibit staff members from communicating or coordinating with each other. All such communication and coordination must go through the top management level of each silo. Services are often provided in a manner that is not reimbursable to the agency. Due to financial mismanagement (continuing to expand without the revenue or funding to do so), KMHS found itself $4+ million dollars in the red. This resulted in austerity measures, including layoffs of many valuable employees. These layoffs were handled very poorly, with a great deal of secrecy. The layoff was a surprise attack on June 15th. Staff were whisked away from their offices and informed that they were being laid off, and were not even allowed to return to their desks to collect the personal property until after hours, as if they had been fired for cause. Other austerity measures include major cuts to benefits, including a 500% increase in the monthly premium charged to staff for health insurance. This will be a big impact on paychecks.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your longtime staff, even if we are down the food chain. We actually have years of experience and knowledge that this agency can't survive without. Listening to supervisors and directors below you would have saved you from the financial mess you are in right now. Put aside your egos, listen, and do the math.

I have been working at Kitsap Mental Health Services full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Most jobs are Monday through Friday. Location is close to places to go for lunch. Working hours are good, usually 8 - 5pm or 7:30-4:30pm unless you work on the 24/7 units.

    Cons

Too many changes. Upper management has too many demands. Most staff complains when you make tiny micro errors. They seem to demand perfection but are not perfect themselves. Too much pressure to remember the daily changes. Too much work to do. Unrealistic demands. You get "in trouble" very easily at this agency.

    Advice to Management

Upper Management has too many changes. Too many daily demands from staff. Too many staff members that are always absent from work. Clerical staff needs to start and end at the same time.

I worked at Kitsap Mental Health Services part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy staff to work with and the job is rewarding. I would have stayed longer if I was able to get a full time position. It is a great opportunity to meet new people and gain life experience.

    Cons

The con here is the pay scale. It is somewhat difficult to work your way up and get a full time job because there is a lot of staff that has been there awhile. They promote off of seniority and not performance.

    Advice to Management

If you want to take advantage of the young motivated employees who will keep the business going forward and growing there needs to be more opportunity for them.
