I worked at KiwiCo part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Amazing place to work, wonderful management team and just a generally amazing group of people to spend time with. Lots of company retreats and activities. Very family oriented.

    Cons

I don't really have anything negative to say. I did't struggle negotiating hours of anything of that sort. Only reason I had to leave was because I was attending university in the fall.

    Advice to Management

Lovely people, do a really great job at communicating expectations and deadlines. Only thing that was a little off was that they would have ideas for the retail space but then take a long time implementing them.

    I worked at KiwiCo full-time

    Pros

Really dedicated, smart leaders. Lots of fun company perks. Great culture.

    Cons

Not a lot of trust or ownership given to non-executives.

    Advice to Management

Empower employees to run with their ideas and you may be pleasantly surprised with the outcome. Otherwise, great work creating a fun, supportive work environment.

"Your work is never appreciated, favoritism with the CEO is your best bet of moving up the "corporate" ladder."

I worked at KiwiCo full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lunch provided on Monday and Friday.
Flex day once a week (for only a chosen few, your work has to be considered "remote")
Talented, dedicated team (lower to mid level employees)
    Upper management are just micromanagers

    Cons

Micromanagement to the highest degree, nothing ever seems good enough, very frustrating. This goes back to favoritism.
A real lack of diversity. Everyone is either Asian or Caucasian. (If you're Latino or African American - apply elsewhere! Unless you're hoping to be a token minority)
"To be fair, they did hire one Latino lady near the end of my time here."
Some higher ups only have to come in a couple times a week. (Favoritism with the CEO)
Pay is way below average levels. PTO is hard to accrue.
Projects that you've worked hard on can be shut down by the CEO just like that.

    Advice to Management

Not all employees and departments are treated equally or even fairly, which creates a very cut-throat environment. Upper management are all friends with the CEO and do not follow their prized "company values."

    I worked at KiwiCo full-time

    Pros

Swank location in Tony Kid Friendly Los Altos

    Cons

Crap commute. Company burning cash trying to figure out kid subscription model that will work. Definitely a challenge for them.

    Advice to Management

Pressure to make good on VC is spinning your wheels. Look at becoming a publisher and let teachers use you as a platform for making money. You are getting squeezed by pressure to release monthly hits, profits that get eaten by shipping, COGS and stolen packages. Crappy market for any kind of investor returns. Kahn's non-profit model or Scholastic Books as a school publisher are better models.

    I worked at KiwiCo full-time

    Pros

    Kiwi Crate provides good snacks.

    Cons

    Disingenuous environment, gossip filled.

Extremely high turnover resulting in a very messy, unorganized, and non fluid process.

Always felt unnecessary tension, and pressures, seems out of place for a toy start up.

Sure, the products are "cute" but quite honestly they fall apart so easily. As listed above, I would say the cons outweigh the pros at this company.

    Pros

A place where creativity is encouraged
Colleagues are inspiring to work with
You know you are making a great product that is impactful towards young children

    Cons

Office space seemed small with the growing size of the company

I have been working at KiwiCo full-time

    Pros

In addition to great product, mission and people, the company is collaborative and the opportunities for continued growth are significant.

    Cons

The focus on customers and brand can sometimes lead to slower decision making than you'd expect given company size and mean there is a very high bar for quality.

    Pros

    Work directly on products
Free lunch twice a week with assistance on other days
    Talented, creative team
    Product is cute

    Cons

Too much work and not enough time (or you work whatever hours it takes to get it done)
    Micromanagement
    Lack of organization/process
Not all departments or employees are treated equally, which creates a tense environment. Like others mentioned, it's ironic for a children's toy company.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees and their time and ideas. You need them to make all of your ambitions possible.

    I worked at KiwiCo full-time

    Pros

    - Team has talent
    - Flexible hours (if you live far away you can reschedule your hours so that you don't get stuck in traffic which is nice)
    - Free lunch twice a week is a nice perk
    - Product is a great concept

    Cons

    - Clear favoritism for certain co-workers
    - Bottlenecking is an everyday occurrence with the amount of work expected per person
    - No room for collaboration

Looking at previous posts I can just copy and paste:
    - "Not a comfortable environment, everyone seems stressed, all the time"
    - "Approval process should be based on facts, market research vs feelings or opinions"
    - "High turnover rate so you have to pick up the slack when someone leaves until a new person is replaced"
-"When someone is quitting they force them not to tell anyone until their final week. Difficult to transition their duties to other teammates. Everyone left scrambling."
    - "Micromanaging style"

    Advice to Management

To go off of another post, its ironic that a children's toy company has such a stiff and tense environment.
