    I worked at Klarna

    Pros

Really energetic staff. Most people are pretty ambitious and hard working. From a consumer perspective, it really is a great product when used responsibly.

    Cons

Engineering management is anti-intellectual and the higher up the org chart you go, the less tech savvy. The VP/Director-level or above hires pushed by the investors have all been expensive washouts with little to show for the investment. No proper individual contributor career ladder, which means more technically minded engineers need to go into management or leave the company to progress their careers.

I have been working at Klarna full-time for more than a year

    Pros

It's a fast growing company and you can feel it while working there, many people are highly motivated. Free breakfast. Nice office.

    Cons

Politics should stay away. Management and HR can have trouble leading the way and trust other companies judgement before making their own.

Former Employee - Senior Software Engineer in Stockholm, Stockholm

    I worked at Klarna full-time

    Pros

They will help you if you are moving from another country.

    Cons

Low salaries. Before signing with them do some research and find out about IT salaries in Sweden at any union's website. A company with a toxic environment and with high rotation. More than 50% of employees have been at the company for less than two years.

I worked at Klarna full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Home-office Flexible hours (more or less) Nice co-working office

    Cons

Politics Poor engineering level False promises If you are an experienced engineer be careful, average level is low Engineering mid management is not so good, poor tech experience and does not care about quality, politics and behind the scene machinations. Particularly in the area of engineering. If you are junior developer think twice if it worth it

I have been working at Klarna full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Work side by side with amazing talent Culturally diverse Modern dev tooling Full-stack independent teams

    Cons

The office is just crammed with desks. If you're lucky you might get your own. An increasingly number of teams now work in shared workstations, where you'll be all day pairing or mob programming with your team all day, every day, at all times. Of course that's great for productivity, risking your coworkers' disapproval, how can you get distracted? For the same reason the office is very noisy. Open workspace + mob programming = NOISE (with the S) You can't work from home. Company policy. When asked about these topics, a top level manager said working from home was not good for teamwork, and that they're doing something about the lack of space: replacing desks with workstations and putting curtains between teams for avoiding noise. Fragile to criticism. You're expected to show a positive attitude at all times. Remember, good employees don't complain. Software factory mindset. You're told to work hard, the more time you spend at the office the better. It shows commitment. Not a place for creative people. According to studies, your brain needs to alternate between focus and diffuse mode many times a day to facilitate creativity. You won't be able to do that here, you need to be focused at all times when you're pairing the entire day. Don't get me wrong, I think pair programming is a great tool, I've had a great time using it in the past, but I also believe you can only do it too much, and it can be easily abused by managers whose only concern is numbers. No working at your own pace. No slow thinkers. Mandatory pseudo-scientific logic tests. High churn rate. High dissatisfaction levels measured by the company itself. No empowering the individual with trust and freedom. No disruption in work environment whatsoever. It's a bank, after all.

I have been working at Klarna full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Very talented people, bleeding edge tech. Very high pace and strong consumer focus. If you're motivated then you'll advance fast in the ranks and even faster with yourself!

    Cons

Sometimes pretty chaotic place with shifting priorities. Klarna is a great place to work but certainly not for everyone
