    I worked at Kline & Company full-time

    Pros

The salary is at par with the industry standards

    Cons

Although, the salary is at par with the industry standards, the work culture is not conducive , specifically for, joining at consultant/senior consultant level. No formally defined reporting structure, and hierarchy makes it extremely difficult for employees working at junior levels to get their issues sorted out.
There is an evident communication gap between Kline India employees and Kline employees across other locations. Specifically, the US and European divisions of Kline have a preconceived notion about Kline India employees, which is not very positive. While working with Kline India, one might even feel discrimination based on nationality/ethnicity.
The mid-management level employees of Kline India have no team handling/management experience. Most of the mid-level managers are graduates from Tier 4 B-schools, and lack managerial and technical aspects.
Kline India is a one man show, essentially run by the managing director, India. Each and every decision, action, and reaction revolve around the managing director. The relationship between the MD and most of the employees can be compared to a traditional feudal set-up, wherein the communication is one-sided and is only in the form of orders.
The learning opportunities are limited as syndicated report structures are rigid and traditional. New ideas are not encouraged by the managers who are redundant resources of Kline India.
For custom projects limited to no support is provided by mid level managers who are the interface between the client and consultants. Attributing to the mid level managements limited knowledge and experience, they often fail to understand and convey the actual requirements of the clients to the consultants who are responsible for end to end research related to the assignment.
For custom projects the appreciation if received by the client belongs to the managers and all shortcomings/issues are channeled directly towards the consultant.
Join at project manager or above levels if compensation is your only concern. Also be ready to please the Managing Director with frequent ego massages and transcend similar feudal mentality driven management to people down the hierarchy.

    Advice to Management

Reality check on the calibre of Mid-management is required.

    I worked at Kline & Company full-time

    Pros

Maximum part of an employee's salary comes as take-home

    Cons

Firstly there is no respect for experienced professionals. The people recruited freshly are taught how to butter people rather than how to work. The project leads and project managers are a bunch of worthless people sitting there to earn money instead of leading the team. People promoted to senior levels know nothing about work and are always after saving up their positions instead of managing the projects. The whole work pressure and responsibility comes up to the consultant ultimately at any phase of the work and there is no accountability on the manager's part. Some managers even give their project reviews without even caring to discuss the review with the respective consultants. The superlative degree of superiority among the project leads and managers makes them uniquely made for Kline, because the ultimate degree of domination is existent only in firms such as Kline. There is an ultimate lack of communication between managers and consultants, and to aggravate situations the project leads and project managers are based out of Gurgaon office while the consultants are in the Hyderabad office. That even toughens situation because a manager is supposed to be based out of the same office as that of his team members, unless he/she is managing himself. Promotion does not depend on the quality of service but the length of service. Hence people performing at a below average level get promoted in 2 years with limited contribution to the company's assets.

Additionally, the managing director for India office is not really owned by a deserving candidate and the disadvantage lies in the fact he has total control over employee benefits and employees' recruitment and finance matters. While technical soundness is the prerequisite for his position, the source of sound is actually his excruciating words. Hence, one could imagine what could an employee expect if a company has such people at the top levels of management.

It is disappointing to see the company does not encourage learning of important tools such as MS Office Excel and MS Office Powerpoint, which are crucial for market research jobs.

    Advice to Management

Recruit people worthy of the positions at the top levels of management. Promote the ones who actually deserve it because of the hard work, and not just because of sweet words and buttering policies.

I have been working at Kline & Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are several perks that I have seen with Kline, noted below:
Access to Kline Senior Leadership – Kline is a non-hierarchical organization, all levels of leadership are approachable and available at any time for a discussion, and your ideas are heard
Flexibility - management understands the need for work/life balance and believes that there is give and take, as long as the work gets accomplished
Client Access – Firm cultural belief that whoever does the work/research earns the right to present it to and interact with the client
Upward Movement – Promotions are merit-based, not need-based or time at level
Rapid Knowledge Base Development – Work across industry and functional practices - good variety of projects, clients, and teams within the Kline organization (typical projects are around 3 months)

    Cons

Has the typical challenges of a small company
    - low purchasing leverage for healthcare and other benefits
    - smaller external budget for IT, training, etc. than larger firms (but good support and internal initiatives)
    - less policies and formal processes established an in place than competing firms (less structured)

    Pros

Interesting work, great people and collaboration, and excellent credentials in eyes of clients. Having a publications business as well as a consulting business gives a tool hat many firms have to go outside for; consistent contact with clients due to those studies also provides benefits to the consulting team.

    Cons

Some seniors don't pull their weight and don't engage well with juniors but this is not uniform. Sometimes lacking tools that larger firms have

    Pros

Friendly environment, most managers even senior managers are very approachable. Because of the size of the company consultants have the opportunity to take on quite some responsibility. Very good place to get consulting experience.

    Cons

Company is not really growing sufficiently enough to allow for a long term career path, a lot of the senior slots have been filled up, not necessarily with the most qualified people.

    Advice to Management

Be more selective in promoting the right people for the right functions some people seem to be in senior functions becasue they have been that long with the company not becasuez they have the right skill set.
