I have been working at Kloeckner Metals full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They provide various health benefits but it does cost a lot of money every month.

    Cons

The company is pushing for more technically and more automated processes and procedures because it benefits the company. They also need to look at providing the option to work remote to more employees. It seems the decision to work from home is based on who you know. And if your boss doesn't like the idea of working remote well you can't do it.

    Advice to Management

Look to provide more work from home opportunities. This allows people to have a better work/life balance. More companies offer this and you lose good people because it is not offered. In today's technically based world all you need is a phone and a computer to work.

Look at people in other locations for open positions. If a position can be done remote and a person qualifies they should be offered the position. To deny them because they do not live in the location you want is not a way to help employees strive for more and you miss the opportunity to promote someone that can be a valuable asset to the department.

I have been working at Kloeckner Metals full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits
    Some nice coworkers
    My immediate supervisor is wonderful

    Cons

Very much a good-ole boy network
It's not what you do or how well, it's who you know
    Can't trust HR at all!
Horrible communication between departments and levels within company
    0 training
If i want my suggestions heard, I email them to a Male COUNTERPART who then sends them on to management. If I email management myself, my emails are not even opened!

    Advice to Management

*You have people here who want to do well for themselves and the company but hard work and effort are NOT rewarded.
*Hold sex discrimination workshops for all management positions REGULARLY.
Provide a way for employees to 'rate' their managers. You may find out where some of the real problems lie!
*New performance review plan is unrealistic. You want us to provide feedback up and down the chain of command? I can't do that! My department manager does NOT do his job and is only concerned with his appearance. How well would that feedback go over? I could kiss my job goodbye.
*Provide training. I have NEVER worked at a company with so little training!
*Be more loyal to your employees and we will be more loyal to you. Everyone here is constantly worried about losing their job!

    Pros

Great Benefits, Great Co-Workers, Generally a Happy Environment

    Cons

Training could be better and if you make a mistake it could be your last. Once in a position you rot there.

    Advice to Management

    Wouldn't make a difference if I did.

    Pros

If you’re networked in with leadership they will help you move up but it’s not merit based.

    Cons

I saw 7 GM’s revolved in and out of my branch in 3 years. Basically all you do is put out fires everyday because some department didn’t do their job. It’s a perfect industry for C students.

    Advice to Management

It’s a mess and it starts at the top so good luck

    Pros

Flexibility to make the job flow in a way that worked best for me. A few perks for reaching goals or accomplishing big projects successfully.

    Cons

You never know who you are going to work with & how their day has been going. Some days people can be cranky. Nothing horrible to report.

    Advice to Management

Keep giving incentives and goals to see employees shine. Continue allowing flexibility and encouraging employee comradery across various platforms and sites.
