I have been working at Kmart part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people who work there are amazing and they are incredibly flexible with your schedule.

    Cons

Corporate has ridiculous policies which ruin the store and the job.

    I worked at Kmart part-time

    Pros

Hours were good. I could come in at 9AM and stay until the store closed. Coworkers were nice and easy to get along with.

    Cons

Other than management, this was my favorite job.

I worked at Kmart part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great learning experience. Friendly staff (for the most part). Started out about $3 above minimum wage (this was back in 1998). Great management @ the time that I worked there.

    Cons

After working there for several years, I never was even offered an advancement in my job status, although I had helped out in basically every department (I knew and did my job very well and rarely missed a scheduled day. I received MANY compliments from managers and other staff members but that's as far as that went). After working there for about 2 years, my hours got cut drastically and "beginner workers" were being hired at the same pay rate that I was making at that time, plus they were getting 20+ hours a week, while I was lucky to get 10 hours a week. This was years before Kmart started doing bad financially.

    I worked at Kmart part-time

    Pros

Since most employees are students, there are plenty of opportunities to work more hours if you want. There's also room for promotions if the managers particularly see you working hard.

    Cons

Depending on the manager, they can be really strict about making use of your downtime, so you need to make sure you're always doing something. Also, sales associates get minimum wage.

    Advice to Management

Hire more employees for the electronics department.

    Pros

I have been working at Kmart full-time

    Pros

Room for advancement, focus on training and development. Work life balance is better than at other retailers, the ability to advance is definitely there if you go after it.

    Cons

A lot of movement within the company means lots of changes in upper management. Everyone has their own leadership styles and focuses which can lead to confusing and misleading direction
