    Pros

I'd highly recommend working here. They are always hiring for racking, which is not the most glamorous work, but it's work.

Family-like bonds with people in your department.

Contact with a lot of great people

Chances to move up in the company if you show professionalism and interest

    Cons

    Can be hard work

Very loud environment in the factory

    Hot in the summer

I have been working at Knape & Vogt full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pays well, decent benefits, good place to get experience and education to take to another more employee friendly work place

    Cons

Not a good place for someone who has opinions, and morals they are willing to fight for. Harassment is rampant, and those who use it are often protected by management. The handbook is a guideline and doesn't apply to everyone. They also change procedures without notice, but none of it is communicated very well and almost none of it is written down much less distributed and is subject to change. You can be disciplined or terminated based on shop rumors. Training is a joke, only requirement for trainor is they can do the job...

    Advice to Management

Management is the problem. Look to turn over rate per supervisor, there is a reason why you can't keep people in certain departments or on certain shifts. The behavior you see from supervisors isn't what your employees see.

I have been working at Knape & Vogt full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Almost guaranteed a 40+ hour work week
    - No union

    Cons

    - Severe Nepotism
    - Poor Leadership
    - Lack of Ethics
    - Lack of trust
    - Low Pay
    - Promotion is difficult unless
A: Your related or know the right people
B: Nobody else applies for the position

    Advice to Management

    - Stop hiring your idiot relatives, neighbors and friends
    - Encourage diversity and don't force it, because you have a lot of diverse people literally bringing the quality and production down and your too scared to fire them over fear of being labeled a racist. If you'd fire all the idiot minorities in the same manner as you fire all the idiot whites, you might notice a huge drop in customer and employee complaints.

I worked at Knape & Vogt full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The best part of working at Knape & Vogt was the people. It is a very family-oriented business and there are a lot of good people who work there. The executive team is accessible and approachable.

    Cons

Knape & Vogt is not a good place to work if you're looking to progress in your career. Their mentality seems to be that as long as you're getting paid, your title or job responsibilities shouldn't matter. They have yearly performance appraisal process, but supervisors don't really take it seriously. Good people have left the company because they get put in too small of a box without room to grow. Middle management has a "manage up" mentality and more interested in impressing the executive team rather than lead/develop their direct reports.

The future of Knape & Vogt is uncertain. They are owned by an investment group whose ultimate objective is to sell Knape & Vogt. The corporate facility is outdated. Space is hard to come by. Old and broken chairs.

    Advice to Management

Improve career development process. Give employees more opportunities to discuss their jobs, how they can add more value, and be challenged.

    Pros

    Great benefits, some good people

    Cons

Favoritism is shown by HR and if you're not a favorite it's hard to get ahead. Sexual harassment runs rampant and little is done about it. Upper management cares very little if all about your opinions

    Advice to Management

Listen to you workers and treat them as equals, not like your God's gift to mankind. Fire the supervisors with multiple legitimate sexual harassment offenses

I have been working at Knape & Vogt full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

most of the people are nice and friendly to work with.

    Cons

Line leaders not knowing what the hell they are doing. No training when it comes to the powder coat line, your expected to keep up when you really have no clue how the parts are to hang right on the hangers, and expected to know how to pack them when no one shows you. On one of the hottest days there was a a short 2 min shut down on the line and the line leader refused to let people go get a drink. Favoritism is HUGE, some people get to sit and pack parts on the john sterling area while the rest have to stand, on the powder coat line some will work and some stand around watching you work and nothing is said to them. They will call you names, put you down and when you take it to the management, nothing is done. They will get new people on the powder coat racking line and fire them within a week for not keeping up. They hire huge amounts of temps as people quit or get fired for stupid reasons and temps will work there for years without ever getting direct hired. The pay is NOT worth the crap you deal with on daily basis. Not a good place to work at all. They treat their people like crap.

I have been working at Knape & Vogt full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Knape & Vogt is a great environment for learning more about a particular area or field. It is also a great family friendly company with benefits and vacation to match.

    Cons

Work areas a spread quite thin with few people doing to jobs of many. It is often difficult to be proactive when there are many things to take up available time.

    Advice to Management

Provide greater support to employees and prioritize work to be completed.

    Pros

Fast Pace, new opportunities, strong leadership team, full support from stockholders, growing business who is looking to expand. Very challenging environment that is ever-changing.

    Cons

Poor pay, many benefits were removed such as 401k match and tuition reimbursement. Poor IT environment which makes it difficult to complete several routine tasks.

    Advice to Management

I would recommend management to communicate more effectively within our divisions outside of the corporate headquarters. It would be nice to have all divisions on the same page as far as overall direction of the company.
