I worked at Knight Transportation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed the people that I worked with

Everyone was very nice and outgoing for the most part

    Decent work facilities

    Cons

Brutal hours 7:00am- 5:00pm or 6:00am to 4:00pm depending on your location. Expected to work one Saturday every two months.

Absolutely no training program just shadow a few people for a week to a week and a half and then thrown into it.

Clearly little room to move up

    Intense workload.

Extremely obsolete programs you have to use to book and track freight.

A Very demanding job that you're not expected to fail.

Only care about the companies overall profit and loss and not employees.

    Advice to Management

With the emergence of the autonomous trucking industry as well as UBER Freight this company is going to be headed for trouble if they do not make serious changes. Take time to fully develop your employees with a training program. Drastically increase compensation. Create a better work-life balance.

    Pros

Easy enough job. Lots of freight to keep you moving, when you need pumper fee you get it almost instantly

    Cons

Got a flat tire because of trash in the road, I had to hit it or kill people in cars. They marked it preventable but it wasn't. It was enough to them to put it on DAC

    Advice to Management

Go out and drive do you'll know what you're talking about

I worked at Knight Transportation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good home time, decent pay, ran exclusively 7 western.

    Cons

They still owe me $2500 for a year's worth of scales, tolls. Trucks are slow and gutless.

    Advice to Management

They never listened, so why bother?

I worked at Knight Transportation full-time

    Pros

If you're willing to work 24/7, youll move up quickly.

    Cons

No work life balance. I was told that I was given a laptop to work from home after working 7-5 that day. No holidays off, and work a weekend a month.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of most of your terminal managers. They tell you want you want to hear for fear of their jobs. Theres a reason why people are jumping ship.

    Pros

My direct managers were fantastic. Great culture in that respect.

    Cons

Over work their employees. Bad training. You have to be a yes man, and not fail at ANY task given to you.

    Advice to Management

Better training. Reasonable hours to work.

I worked at Knight Transportation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They try to keep you moving. The company is trying to make the terminals better with upgrading their facilities. Decent equipment.

    Cons

Dispatch needs to remember that we're not mind readers out here on the road-communication is key. The constant need to remind dispatch about home time is almost maddening.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of brain-dead dispatchers and bring in ones that actually will be a helpful bridge between corporate and the drivers because communication is key. Increase speed limit so drivers are not a liability on the road. We need to go with the flow of traffic, not hold it up.

I have been working at Knight Transportation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They took me in from not having any experience whatsoever, educated me in their school and prepared me for a CDL license which was very easy to finalize after graduating from their accelerated program.

    Cons

In otr, you become separated from your family but because I do not have a family I suppose it is ok but also realize I limited myself from ever getting a family.

    Advice to Management

This might be bad advice because I do not know the operation but mix other employment opportunities for drivers and driver managers for well rounded and experienced employee.

I worked at Knight Transportation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Some terminals were good with attentive driver managers and mechanics. Good routes when staying on the west coast. Good orientation and training.

    Cons

Most Terminals need a lot of work. Trucks are too old and not kept in good shape. You are out of luck if your truck needs work and you have a load to deliver.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time with drivers and tend to their needs.
