    Pros

A relaxed environment. No many hours to work

    Cons

Absolute no Career advance. Very old fashioned technology approach. They do not work proactively.

    Advice to Management

Listen more to the skilled (if there any) employee instead of looking outside.
Change the compensation policy and pay by performance.

I worked at Knights of Columbus full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They offer a draw up front but quickly take it away when you don't meet their impossible standards, meet a lot of good honest people among the rank and file members, not at corporate. Free training, and training and sales materials, they do teach you a system.

    Cons

For the most part their system does not work the office i was in went through 40-50 agents in 7 years, they make the Gen. Agent hire way to many people for the market and all fail. They come up with a contrived min. standard for all their agents which is impossible to achieve ,out of 14000 agents only about 150-200 make their made up standard, which i beleive was put in place to cover up the fact that the great majority of their agents are failures compared to their standard of min. production. The general agent had no experience in sales or in the Knights, he basically abandoned his agents for lack of knowing what to do.the biggest problem only a small number of members will meet with you and buy insurance, and the commissions they pay are under market. But the worst of all is you do all the service work for nothing this includes death claims ,all paper work for loans ect.without getting paid.

    Advice to Management

Your agents are self employed you know what that means you can't tell them how to dress
or to go to office meetings or to fill out a weekly report, you break the law when you do this and you are going to get caught.Pay a salary and commissions so agents don't have to work for nothing.

I worked at Knights of Columbus full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Make your own hours and a good mix of faith and career.

    Cons

The entire organization is all a scheme to make money. The charitable side is a cover up to provide tax benefits to the company. 700 employees in the home office dedicated to the insurance side of the business and 7 employees dedicated to the fraternal side. Think about that for a minute. Everything is so archaic, especially anything that has to do with technology. The home office made mistakes weekly which cost me a lot of business and money. My general agent and his boss lied to me about multiple things to get me to start as a field agent which ultimately hurt me and my family for three years and still trying to pick up the pieces since I left. They do not provide any help with benefits so 100% of your benefits is out of your pocket. So if you have a family, stay away. This was built for a 60 year old man to make a middle of the road income. This will completely consume your life and everything you do for every day you are an agent. Not worth it.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the field agents rather than basing everything off of what worked in the 70's and 80's. And please get rid of your entire IT staff especially the director and anyone else that makes decisions for the company's technology. Lotus Notes? Seriously?
