I worked at Koch Companies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fantastic Orientation presentation except for the garage supervisor who was obviously not only racist but just a hateful old goat in general and very disrespectful to everyone who encountered him. The safety presentation was outstanding, probably the best I have ever seen and experienced. This former police officer presenting the program knew his stuff. I was flown to Minneapolis for Orientation, paid cash on the first day and put up at a Marriott extended stay. It was awesome. Most companies don't treat new recruits so well. i thought it was promising.

    Cons

I sat around as much as I did with JB Hunt! It once took 6 days to get a load out of the house! HORRIBLE!! I could not get any miles out of these people and my pay was so lousy that my wife was on a rampage. I had no choice but to get routed into a terminal then walk away from the job. Truck was a rag. I broke down on the first trip out. Then, I sat by the road while arguing with the breakdown rep about the truck would not start up and run. HE sent some guy with a computer to check it out. When the guy got to where I was broken down, 7 hours later, he immediately said "you don't need me. You need a tow truck." Yeah, no crap!! SMH!!

    Advice to Management

Run your trucks. Stop leaving drivers at the truck stop. And when a driver puts his truck in the shop, you don't leave him in the driver's lounge until midnight, put him back in the broke down truck at 1230 am then wake him up again at 6 am to work on the truck some more. Would YOU want to be treated this way?? Put your driver in a hotel and treat him with respect.

    Pros

The pros to driving in the dedicated division was you always knew what your next load was

    Cons

They don't tell you to get commercial insurance coverage on your self

    Advice to Management

Be up front with the new driver. Tell them if their in a company that the equipment is covered and not the drivers

    Pros

New trucks and new trailers every month now. My dispatcher keeps me moving and gets me home when I ask. Common sense in the Safty Department. My pay is always correct. In truck scanner for paperwork.

    Cons

Trucks governed at 64, not all dispatchers as good as mine (but that's a personal preference, some don't like mine). Insurance is like all Trucking Companies (not that great in my opinion)

    Pros

Autonomy doing the job. If you like qualcomm as your only form of communication with the company and not talking to anyone. Pay is weekly and fairly consistent. Good load pay for local work. Great hiring bonus.

    Cons

No direct communication. No sense of connection with the leadership. No upward mobility. No pay for performance. No bonus other than fuel. No pay increase after one year as expected. Low hourly pay.

    Advice to Management

Try and find a way to communicate your interest in your drivers and give them a way to feel connected and have a voice.

    Pros

The brothers really know what they are doing and have great business accumen

    Cons

Executive leadership is very disengaged from the staff and are only concerned about what is in it for them rather than the betterment of the company. Very unfortunate.

    Advice to Management

Replace the executive team with people that are compassionate about the company and its employees

I have been working at Koch Companies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

95% of the people I have dealt with seem to be genuinely happy people. A pleasure to talk to. Newer equipment that is well maintained.

    Cons

Management makes poor/bad decisions many times without knowing everything that is needed to make a good decision. They do not want you to make money. If you make more than someone else they will cut your pay yet expect you to still work long hard hours for much less pay. I've watch multiple employees take large pay cuts that seriously hampered their lives.

    Advice to Management

Look at the work your employees are doing to earn their money instead of doing a blanket pay cut. Perhaps there are a few people making excessive money that haven't earned it.
