Pros
Very smart people who promote great collaboration. Good compensation and lots of chances to move around between companies and positions.
Cons
They stress their management philosophy Market Based Management too much and it can take from valuable work time.

Pros
-The company's guiding principles makes this company one of the most enjoyable places to work in. -People are friendly, respectful, and have the integrity to do the right thing. -Places the important things high on the priority list (safety, environmental rules/regulations, compliance of law) -You can potentially make more money than your boss (based on your value creation). I've seen it happen. -You can respectfully challenge any boss based on company opportunities and business ideas. (Don't expect anything though).
Cons
-Nothing is guaranteed (your job/salary/etc). (Can be good or bad) The company operates on 'Market Based Management' which things like tenure or seniority does not apply.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I am glad to see you have seen Market Based Management in action and are enjoying the culture. The people and the basic principles of doing the right thing, treating others with respect and expecting employees to bring ideas and challenges to the table are among my favorite parts of being a Koch employee. You keep up the good work as well and thank you for being a part of our journey!! HR Manager Katie Schuckman

Pros
Koch has one of the strongest cultures I have ever worked in. Their entire guiding principles and policy is driven-through Market Based Management which is incredibly brilliant business-model for which is economics driven.
Cons
The biggest downslide to the MBM culture is often times you hear employees leveraging the culture-approved MBM vernacular, but there are gaps in the actual application of the concepts with many of the leaders.

Pros
Koch Industries Market Based Management makes so much sense because it's common market principles utilized within the company. Every department provides services and uses an internal chargeback methods that encourages efficiency, comparison against markets, and transparency.
Cons
Leadership at KBS specifically seems to be lost on how to appropriately implement MBM. Decision Rights are not pushed down to the appropriate levels. Management still leans towards an old-style command and control environment. If you want to go anywhere significant in Koch Industries, you need to be in Wichita. Everyone else is treated as less than priority.

Thank you for your feedback! You are right about Market Based Management and it truly being our competitive advantage in the market. The holistic approach of MBM has guided us through so much growth and change. It is something though, to your point, we have to nurture and apply to continue that success. We are dedicated to continual improvement in our learning and application, and we are learning every day. As far as you feeling less important being outside of Wichita, I can only say we must work to change that if that is a feeling from our employees. We are a global business with employees all around the world who should feel valued regardless of location. I manage a team remotely today and have not felt that disconnect, but realize how hard it can be in a mobile workforce to be face to face as often as we would like. We continue to evolve in this area and have some initiatives around increased collaboration and knowledge sharing as we head into the future. I am thankful that you took the time to share your thoughts so that I and others can reflect on it and continue to improve. Best of luck in your future endeavors! Pros
Application of Market Based Management when applied consistently (not perfectly as it is a learning process) results in amazing results and experience
Cons
There is still a resistance to WFH and tendency to have an "old-school" work mentality often perceived as a result of the percent of white middle aged males leading.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review! We aren’t perfect, but as a company we are continually learning and are glad you saw the impact of our market based management culture at Koch. I am disappointed that you didn’t feel like you had a good understanding of our compensation philosophy. Our compensation philosophy is no secret and employees, as well as external parties can read in detail about our philosophy in Chapter 10 of Good Profit (Charles Koch’s book). As an organization, we have a pay for performance compensation philosophy that aims to pay individual employees competitively based on the value they create for the organization. Your feedback is appreciated and we continue to look for ways to better assimilate employees to our compensation philosophy in our onboarding program, through training, and continued conversations with their supervisor/leaders. -Justin Huschka, Talent Acquisition Manager
