Kodak Gallery has a long or possibly short road ahead...
May 7, 2010 - in Emeryville, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great industry with plenty of potential. The majority of the team are fantastic and the culture is warm, friendly, and family oriented. The online photo space is interesting and fun to work in.
Cons
Kodak Gallery lost its way around 2007 and has struggled to catch up to the competition since. The company continues to lose headwind and is in rapid decline. Unless you are looking for a formidable challenge and a chaotic scramble to gain back market share, this is not the place for advancing one's career.

Pros
benefits, work schedule, co-workers, the ability to travel and get out the warehouse.
Cons
lack of promotions, they got rid of bonuses to people in the lab who did the work, and gave them to people at corporate who were already making top dollars but not truly fulfilling their duties; that's why this company was bought out and shut down.

I had a wonderful experience in leading the next generation platform architecture activities
May 6, 2011 - Senior Software Architect in Emeryville, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
They recognize the role of the architects. They gave good opportunities for architects to drive the initial high level architecture and high level technology assessment. Occasionally you interact with Kodak labs to do proof-of-concept of new Imaging technologies. Product Management is pretty good in defining clear specifications through FSDs and UI functional specification and wireframes.
Cons
Too much outsourcing of engineering activities to Wipro and ex-Intuit consultants/contractors. To a large extent it is Test driven development. QA team's deliverables influence the design and deliverables. 1st level Engineering managers are not very competent. During my time they were more or less technical leads -- hence they are do not have any managerial experience. Extreme agile

Hard but cool people

Good people and lots of variety in day to day work
Cons
Hard long work, standing in the sun or cold and bosses played a lot of favoritism.

Good people Good work life balance/flex schedule Pay decent Good promoting from within Great benefits

Pros
The benefits are good, especially for those with families. 9-5 schedule (or less) for most employees. Lots of flexibility in schedule for those with kids with opportunities to sometimes work at home, come in late, leave early, and so on. There are some really nice people here. Easy going office environment for the most part.
Cons
Lack of leadership and increasing politics. Overall planning is weak and business seems to be largely reactive. Lots and lots of turnover in a short period of time so there's no historical knowledge leading to the same mistakes being made over and over again. Very little importance put on employee well-being or morale so motivation is very low overall. Not a great place if you want to advance in your career or have a career at all: unless you are a select few who have the right connections. and there a lots of "loudest voice in the room" type of situations. Lots of problems go un-addressed because of inefficiencies: bugs on the website can remain indefinitely. Logistically, the location isn't great if you don't drive - but there is a free city shuttle from the BART station so that helps. You can ride a bicycle but there are some questionable neighborhoods to pass through. Lunch options are pretty limited. Pay is lower than average. Contractors get treated poorly- ie. slow or vague conversion to permanent status/uncertain timelines/sudden endings/etc.

What a shame
Jun 10, 2008 - Senior Program Manager in Emeryville, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The benefits are great, and there's much to be learned from an innovative business like Kodak. If you like big companies, this is the place for you.
Cons
This was once a great place to work, but really went downhill once the full Kodak-ization of Ofoto was completed. Too many great people were either allowed to leave or shown the door.

Hard to complain, but if you insist...
May 23, 2010 - in Emeryville, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
It's a fairly comfortable place to work. Competitive compensation with good benefits. Not too much office politics. Some departments are strong, like Customer Service and Operations.
Cons
They used to get free soda and food from Costco. When the CEO did away with that, so did motivation and the productivity.
